Game 317 - OTC Rnd1 - Arkadius (WWfF) vs Thagrosh1 (PT)

Game 317 - OTC Rnd1 - Arkadius (WWfF) vs Thagrosh1 (PT)
Breakdown/Dumb bell

The Oceania Team Champs is here!

WTC style, so 5 man teams with a trade off matchup process that allows limited game choice control.
This particular iteration was run a little differently, in that each table available in a round also had a different scenario. My reception to that change is a little mixed, though there is definitely something worth using there.

Anyway, our opening matchup is into "Tasmania". The event used to be state based, probably an aspect we should just drop for a make-a-team-if-you-can deal.

Our matchups for this look.....bad. Two players have poor spreads, remaining three are predicted as mostly even games. 'el Captaino, glorious preacher of conning Winters, navigates everything pretty well and we all get what we think are even games with one poor result. More on that brain scratching later.

I go into guy-who-definitely-wasn't-on-the-can-while-I-was-unwittingly-talking-about-him-outside-the-door, or gwdwotcwiwutahotd for short. Or Dingster.

Plan going in is drop Arkadius wherever possible, per the semi-constant whinging about lack of Maelok skills to pay undead billz. Dingster has Fyanna 2 beast spam and Thags Primal Terrors. Lack of Legion practice proves telling, I assume Maelok vs Primal Terrors isn't wanted on the opposing side, and so I expect Arkady to play against Fyanna.

I get to pick table/scenario, I select the one with a centre forest Arkadius can hide behind. Other than that it has a load of forests in not super relevant spots. I win the roll to go first and get the side with a defensive obstruction.

Round 1: My initial running forwardness is impeded by the super deployed Hellmouth meanness, slightly mitigated by use of the Obstruction. I completely space out on the side by side positioning that stops the whole dragging thing. I have a bunch of Razor Boars pop the counter charge animus, in case a tentacle runs up to somewhere I really don't want. It's not ideal, because MAT 5 is pants and a miss means the Piggy is doomed to be dragged off and killed.

Legion move up, Tentacles take up blocking positions. Blightbringer pops it's arm aura. I don't even know it's other options, they aren't relevant it would seem. Strength buff thing goes on Golab.

Minion 2: Feat time. I want to kill the Blight Bringer, however it is to far back and I have other concerns to deal with aka Hellmouths. Other objective being to RFP Golab and be rid of the Entropic force/cancelling Thags from having a feat.

Arkadius stays relatively far back, cowering. As you do. Mad science must be preserved after all.

One Road Hog receives Ghostly/Primal/Forced Evolution, ends up getting into the central Hellmouth and kills it. I also send up a War Hog in the same vicinity, goes into Golab. I opt to try hard 7's, miss slightly more than average so he's sitting on more boxes than planned. I end up getting lucky with a Razor Boar anyway, getting the 13 on the dice needed to RFP Golab. Never in doubt.

Right wise one Road Hog clearly did something because he has three fury, sodded if I can remember. These turns are complicated. Like shoelaces. Slip on boots for life.
This flanks Hellmouth is killed by a Primal'ed War Hog.

Legion 2: Blightbringer charges up, toeing the central zone. Between it and the Ogrun coming in and munching I lose the Warhogs and the front Road Hog.

Legion score the centre zone for a point, 0-1.

Minion 3/Round 4/Legion 5: Ah. I've made some terrible mistakes that become apparent somewhat late to me. Gibblets. Such damn gibblets.

I attempt attacks back, throwing the Road Hog in to flame thrower some support stuff, discovering than Ogrun armour is high, but enough for wayward POW 12 to not trigger Vengeance. Awkward.
Piggy models die in high abundance flailing at Ogrun, I kill about half of the infantry before Arkadius is put out of his misery from a charging Warmonger that one shots him.

After the matchup I thought it was a super poor list for Arkadius to drop in, I'm actually less convinced after staring at the photos and ignoring the might that is the screams in the back of my head.

In terms of specifics for the game, I could have moved models up better on the initial turn, though the options I ended up with with were workable. The over arching problem was that I sacrificed my War Hogs, whilst also needing to take into account threat range issues (i.e War Hogs are pantsed after the feat turn. Sod all in the game threatens less than 9 inches).
Roads Hogs going in and killing the Hellmouths seem fine, the problem then is killing Golab. War Hogs have to end up behind the central forest and in the back area of the right zone, however those placements only work if Golab can't come in as a heavy and pop one of them. Will have to do some math if I can be bothered.

That said it's still Legion favoured. Likely even more so with terrain potentially shielding the tentacle fiends.

Imph. Insufficient jokes. A man goes to see his doctor, complaining of wild eyes, shitty memes and dad jokes. The Doctor sighs, 'cause he needs help. So much help. Everyone needs help to prevent the inevitable shit storm that is social media. In the most earnest of fashions, the Doc tries to help out, talking about therapies, radiation, why is Peter Parker not instantly a player on developing aaaabbbbsssss. At this point the doc pondered that maybe his attention span had been crushed by his torments. After flailing at the office that day, he locked the man in the closet and went home. As he lay in his bed, pondering past mistakes like dying top of 2 on a stream game, he hears "Fuck up Nips".
