434 - OTC Rnd 2 - Gorten vs eLylth

Round 2, into The Tasmans on Recon.

I went into eLylth, pretty much as planned. Keys for me are to draw out the feat to either clear out my infantry or take out the Earthbreaker, feat out for the advantage as appropriate, use the Sucker bunker to stop later turn assassinations.

This iteration of Lylth is the double Rav, Blightbringer and a Warspear unit. The warspears Preye the Earthbreaker, I have enough rubbish to gum them up that they didn't really bother me.

Merc Deploy: Won the roll, picked first, Legion got a nice wall which was going to be annoying. Primarily I went first as with the flooding potential of my list unless he sacs a Blightbringer activation he doesn't contest and that's near enough to an auto win.

Legion Deploy: Stuff. Blightybringerery chump on the non-wall side, fair enough.

Merc 1: It all runs forward, I keep the important solos for my anti-Lylth bunker back from the murder death range (Woo that 7 inches of sweet sweet non-Ravagore murder freedom). Gun Mages go up on the right side.

Legion 1: All the Legion stuff moves up, Lylth feats and all the stuff starts peppering the Press gangers. Mission success!
A load of Press Gangers dies. my shrugging is mighty.
Then a Ravagore moves up behind the wall and shoots a Gun Mage.
Crap.
I need the Gun Mages for late game, there was no reason to expose them to death at all. Being a mighty Arm 11, one game mage explodes. Annoying, but won't matter much.
The next shot scatters and sets the Officer and two Mages on fire.
Well, shit. That's really bad. Still playable, but unlike the Pirates I care a little bit about the Amethyst Rosey twits.
Warspears end up most central, Blightbringer ends up on the left and other beasts on the right.

Merc 2: Sure enough, fire kills the three Gun Mages. I avoided the poorly painted eye sockets of the officer as I placed him on the shonky model tray.
Risen spawned in hyper aggressive mode up the board.
The remaining Press Gangers, more of them surviving than expected, run forward into the middle of the zone.
The front Risen run out of command to stand in front of the Warspears and ponder their unlife choices (If only we'd appreciated the sunset more).
The Gun Mages, now a pitiful trio, hide behind the Earthbreaker.
I run Alexia, Hawk and Madelyn up around the objective, shielding Gorten with Gorman/Alexia in Sucker range.

Legion 2: Cameroon raises an eyebrow (intellectually, not physically. Though maybe he did physically and I missed it).
A Ravagore shoots my objective, sets Hawk, Alexia and Madelyn on fire. Did not need them near an objective, should have had them to the side and cast a wall while forgoing the extra camp.
The Warspears punch the Risen in front of them, one gets into the zone.
The other Ravagore and Naga shoot some more Pirates (it goes from an AAAAARRRR of fun times to an ARRRRRGH of burny death).
As I eyeballed correctly, the Blightbringer was out of walk range of the zone. Alas, Camadias was wise to my shenanigans and elected to not virtually autolose, running in to toe the corner of the zone.

Merc 3: Fire kills Hawk and Madelyn. Risen again spawn aggressively.
The Blightbringer getting in makes this a longer game for me now. Plan is to kill the Objective and start chewing on the Brightblinger (Thug life), use my feat a turn later to get the Earthbreaker positioned to charge and kill the Garg and win out on scenario.
Thorbreaker kills the Objective, a Warspear and dings the Blight Bringer for a little.
Risen/Press Gangers charge up, Alexia ends up in the middle of the field and screams "Shoot me!".
Gorten toes the zone for giggles, camps a lot and starts a card game with Gorman. A couple rows of small bases sit in front of him.
Mercs go to 1 CP.

Legion 3: Everything sits around and takes shots, Lylth hangs back in safe land. I lose Alexia, the front Risen and a few more Press Gangers, this was a low damage turn do to some awkward activation timing (I think the intent was to get work out of the Warspears, but they were quite jammed up).

Merc 4: Time to set up the Blight bringererer demise. Unless Lylth is in range, then she dies.
The Press Gangers kill the War Spear in the zone.
Gorten goes up, feats. Lylth, the wall Ravagore and some support bits are out. Everything else goes back a small amount, jamming up on stuff.
Earthbreaker moves up into zone clearing range, targets a Warspear with a  torpedo to kill him and knock down the Ravagore. The remaining shots, with earlier damage, leaves the Alien knock off on 22 boxes.
The rest of my stuff does cheer leader poses in the backfield.

Legion 4: Feated beasts move up and shoot stuff, dinging the Earthbreaker for not a great deal.
Lylth clears out a bunch of Risen and Press Gangers. As you do.
The non-feated Ravagore uses that thing I forget they can do. What's it called? A charge. That's right, it has melee attacks. Doh.
it goes into the Earthbreaker, does damage but takes nothing out.

Merc 5: No Pic alas, time is now an issue.
So far it has all gone to plan. Kind've. I haven't caused Nukes to launch, but tourism to Cuba is still frowned upon in plan terms.
I have to get the Ravagore out of the way, that will free the Earthbreaker to charge. He will then kill the Blightbringer and engage the Ravagore/Naga, Gorten will camp up in a corner and the scenario game will be looking good.
The Gun Mages, the remaining three, all aim. They need six's to hit the Ravagore and need to push him back three inches to free up the charge lane.
The first one rolls a five and kills the randomly engaging Risen.
The second one also misses.
The last one lands it!
Roll the push back.
Get two inches.
WE'RE OFF THE RAILS CAPTAIN!
New plan, back up, kill the nearest Ravagore, hide with Gorten, shoot down the Blightbringer the turn after.
Thorbreaker backs up, gets out of the BringerBlights charge range. I think. Four inches move isn't great. He shoots down the Chargagore.
Gorten sprints on his little legs to get behind the Colossal.

Legion 5: Things move up, shoot down the Objective, guns down Gorten. Sad face.

Me on the left.

Dangit. Full cred to the Camster, he knew what to do in the matchup. The three Gun Mages being tools happens, my only real regrets this game is that early jog by the Gun Mages and the bizarre decision to crowd important models behind a Def 5 anchor stone.

We went down hard this round, only Bogan Frawlie scraped in a win. I'll own it now that we severely underestimated the Tassies, the flogging was thorough.
