Game 304 - MacBain! vs eSkarre


Then we were Slamming.

Potential foes being Cryx, Khador and Russ with whatever faction he is in the mood for.

Good a time as any to throw MacBain! out and see how much I've forgotten. For this slam I dropped the Press Gangers + Grogspar to throw in the Kayazy Assassins, Rockbottom and Kell.

Round one, glorious Cryx, good to get the testing going.

eSkarre + Deathjack, Aikos + Kraken,Raider Captain, Witches + Hag, Necrosurgeon + Stitch Thralls, Soul Hunters (Min), Darryl Wrathe

Cryx Deploy: I won the roll, chose the table side to deny Aikos/Skarre having a Trench to mock me from. Witness the sweet Deathjack conversion with arms that make sense.

Merc Deploy: Um....yep.....that's a deploy that is.

Cryx 1: Deathward goes on the Kraken then Skarre charges up, the Raider sits 3" in the forest, the Hag hides behind the Obstruction while the Necrosurgeon/Aikos hides behind the Kraken.Deathjack puts Admonition on himself.

Merc 1: Three focus goes on the Galleon, as I optimistically think I might be able to pop Skarre on the bottom of one. Dougal hangs back, pops Double Powder Rations and Artillerist on the Galleon.

Galleon stomps forward, goes base to base with the Obstruction. gets a tolerable amount of shots, but the nipple guns are short of Skarre by half an inch. I try to get scatters on the Hag/Necrosurgeon, but they are placed at the appropriate spots that the angles prove untenable.

Kayazy and TAC run forward and spread out. MacBain hugs the left side of the Obstruction (Henceforth I will call it "Huggles tower") and puts Counter Measures on the Assassins.

Kell moves up on the left behind the Linear and sets up camp, declaring himself suitably comfortable then knocks off a Satyxis.

Alexia rides like the wind up the left flank, banters with Kell and starts salivating at the concept of juicy Satyxis souls.

Orin, Eiryss, Aiyanna/Holt, Silly and Rockbottom hang out in the back, most near Huggles Tower.

Blergh. I had to write this twice, so have relived the multiple errors here a few times.

1) Eiryss could have knocked off Skarres focus, making even blast damage from the Galleon tenable to hurt her and limit what her feat could do.

2) Counter Measures is irrelevant this early, the Kraken is the pontful Cryx shooting and can happily stay out of the 5 inch pain range. Fortune on Eiryss or Fail Safe on the Galleon would have done more.

3) Galleon needed to be screened, as Perdition can push the Deathjack forward. I could have either split deployed the Assassins or (More difficult) tried to block with the Eliminators, which brings me to....

4) I forgot to activate the Eliminators. Defeated by my own desire to outflank! I blame the Necro Surgeon tempting me with this turn 3 plan I set up in my deployment.

PRO STRATS.

Cryx 2: Deathward on Kraken/Admonition on Deathjack upkept, Deathjack gets a focus (Goes to three). Skarre moves into the zone, Perditions a TAC to move Deathjack forward toward the Galleon. Feats on herself, Deathjack, two Soulhunters and my buddy Darryl.

Satyxis charge forward, two get to a Kayazy that they swing and miss. One of them runs through a gap to sit behind the front row of Kayazy. Hag pops mini-feat so they go Incorp at the end of the turn.

Deathjack goes into the Galleon, poor damage rolls on the initials is ameliorated by spikes on the bought attacks, left side of the Colossal dies.

Darryl walks up, pops Beyond Death. Kraken walks up, shoots the Satyxis in the middle of the Assassins and kills three of them with the blast. Mini guns kill another TAC.

Raider Captain leaves the forest, engages Alexia, fails the Terror and the Rally check. Soul Hunters activate without Darryl Incorp as he moved up first, run around to blocking positions, one them shields the Hag. Necrosurgeon twiddles his thumbs in the back.

The Soul Hunters acting after Darryl is unfortunate, but the thing I'm confused by is why Skarre wouldn't feat on the Hag, that might be me being led by the nose which is distinctly possible when I play against Rob, as I have to try to kill her if I value my feat.

Merc 2: Counter Measures upkept for free, more for giggles than practical value. MacBain allocates two to the Galleon. Dougal puts Artillerist on the Galleon, Aiynna gives the Kayazy Magic Weapons.

Galleon moves up,triggers Admonition on the Deathjack who walks around the top of Huggles Tower to stare menacingly at MacBain! Galleon rolls up five shots with the Nipples and shoot at Aikos. The gimpy guns on the left do nothing, the opening shot from the right side hits Aikos with the Artillerist re-roll, I boost the damage roll and crank it, killing the journeyman and shutting down the Kraken.

I need no skill with dice like these.

Remaining Galleon shots kill the non-feated Soul Hunter.

The lone TAC walks up a bit, clouds next to Huggles Tower. MacBain! feats for 9, getting Eiryss, Kell, Orin, Aiyanna, RockBottom, the TAC survivor and three Kayazy. He then barely advances out of the kill box.

Kell pops two Satyxis, fueling Alexia. Rockbottom flamethrowers the TAC, who enjoys the Sauna, but fails to hit Darryl for some sweet sweet fire action (I hear it's the best way to win games).

The Kayazy run/charge on Killstroke (Mini feat), killing a few Satyxis and one of them running to shield MacBain!

Orin moves up and anti-Magics, Eiryss runs to focus bomb the Deathjack.

The Eliminators realise they aren't versing Haley and can in fact activate normally, they run up on the left.

Moment of truth, rainbow Alexia rides up on her unicorn, keeping out of the Soul Hunters melee range. She is half an inch out of ignoing stealth on the Hag for a double boosted Hellfire.

I imagine you can see the glaring error here. I'll put this one down to unfamiliarity with eAlexia, I'm used to the Primned version having a Handcannon, I easily could have moved into the Soul Hunters engagement to do the Magic Attack Hellfire on the Hag to kill her.

A momentary thought I had after the game: I could have bypassed the feat a little by having Alexia placed to run and be Power Slammed by the Galleon into the Cryx heavy (Or equivalent feated models) to knock him down, then have Eiryss run to avoid allocating for shaking. This doesn't work anyway because the Deathjack gets souls from his arms bypassing the Eiryss bomb, but worth remembering for the future.

Cryx 3: No allocations allowed, no spells upkept. Skarre puts Black Spot on the Assassins, walks behind the Kraken and reactivates it.

Remaining Satyxis move up, stab some Kayazy to death. Darryl charges, kills the TAC, no Battle Wizard because of Orin and Light Cav's back. Soul Hunters charge, one pops two Kayazy and puts the Underboss on one hit point, the other kills Eiryss and the two Kayazy near MacBain!

Deathjack decides not to go for MacBain! (Camping four) and walks over to finish off the Galleon instead.

Raider Captain walks back a little and rallies.

Merc 3: Aiyanna and Holt move up, Aiyanna misses the Harm on the Soul Hunter, but Holt shoots him dead at least.

Rockbottom shoots down the Hag.

Alexia moves up to the back field, a free strike from a Witch misses, three Thralls pop out. Kell aims, pops the remaining two Satyxis. The Thralls charge, one goes into the Necrosurgeon and eviscerates him, the other two dismount Darryl.

The Underboss charges Darryl, the charge attack misses and the second attack does no damage.

Orin walks up and Anti-Magics.

Dougal walks up, misses the Soul Hunter so MacBain! moves to the left, boosts his Handcannon and gets the job done.

Eliminators go into Deathjack, one charges and does a little bit of damage.

Cryx 4: Deathjack/Kraken get some focus.

Kraken kills the Thrall Warriors, the Underboss and the Objective. Deathjack kills the Eliminators. Skarre runs into the trench on my side of the board, Stitch Thralls block irritatingly.

Raider Captain doesn't activate.

Cryx go to 2 CP.

Merc 4: Aiyanna and Holt move up, Harm the Kraken. Dougal, Rockbottom, Kell, Orin all shoot/Lighning and fail to kill Darryl. Alexia walks up, Pops Three Thralls. The four Thralls on the table go, it takes two of them to kill Darryl, the other two swing into the Kraken for not much. MacBain! runs up to get away from the Deathjack.

Cryx 5: Skarre Perditions a Thrall Warrior to advance Deathjack, Kraken kills the remaining Thrall Warriors. Deathjack goes in and kills Alexia. Stitch Thralls block.

Cryx go to 3 CP.

Merc 5: Do a few attacks on Deathjack, Sill runs to engage for MacBain! to have a gang bonus, clock out in MacBains activation.

New rule: When it gets down to 15 minutes on my clock, photos will stop...

In spite of the glaring errors, this wasn't the rofl stomping I was expecting, so will try out ADR a few more times, I think this is workable.
