Oblivion Game 1 - MacBain1 (Llael) vs Stryker2 (Flames of Darkness)

I write Batreps. Given it's a modified ruleset time, reboot! Previous reps were in what is now a desiccated wasteland, haunted by animals voiced by Whoopie Goldberg.

Oblivion Game 1 - MacBain1 (Llael) vs Stryker2 (Flames of Darkness)

Oblivion is here!

Anyway, major ruleset changes means MacBain. If in doubt, drop MacBain, he's nearly always average. Ostensibly this game was the finale of our local League, realistically Haidbro (My biff opponent) and myself were having our first post changes game so madness and proxies ensue.

The previously favoured Gorten list was already in doubt given the Galleon/Control Size issues, no longer having Press Gangers around in irregulars was the final pin in that one.

I also had the sub goal of a list with a Blockader so I'd start painting the damn thing. Didn't complete before the game, I blame the government (plus I did my taxes and I'm salty about it)

MacBain1 (Llael) - Blockader, Galleon, 2x Vanguard, Daughters of the Flame, min Choir, Gibbs, Eilish, Ragman, Anastasia

Go on Colossals! FIGHT FOR MY LOVE! ONLY ONE (MAYBE) WILL STAY FOR THE NEXT LIST ITERATION!

Versus

Stryker2 (Flames of just straight up whack) - 'Ol Rowdy, Lancer, 2x Precursor Knight + UA's, Acosta1, Jakes1 + Gallant1, Ragman, Alexia2, Morrowan Archon, Devil's Shadow Mutineers

Hnurgh....weaponmaster-ish spam. Well, that's not good. Vague thinking going in is I lead a bit with the Galleon, Daughters behind. Galleon will die horribly, then Blockader and feated Daughters will swing in the mid game and salvage it from there.

Scenario is Anarchy. Nuts. Wide apart zone for units with weird flag/objective arrangement in the middle.

Terrain wise Cygnar have a thin defensive forest in the centre, there's wall ont eh right poking in that flanks zone and Cygnar get some good Trenches also poking into that zone. There's other terrain, just doesn't come into affect much.

I lose the die roll (Dammit Anastasia! Is this because I haven't seen your titular film?), Swans choose first, I'm to lazy to swap sides, internally citing a forest and cloud as defensive terrain which was clearly me lying to myself. Did that thing where I saw what the terrain would do for me, not what it would do for my opponent. Like, sure, the opposing trenches don't help me as Swans have sod all guns. It does help them, because I do have guns.

ROUND UNO - Run, rabbit, run, rabbit, run run run
Proxy wise, I'm using Paingivers as Choir. Swans have a horse as Alexia2, a Storm Lance as the Morrowan Archon and the Haley3 trio as the Devil's Shadow.

Cygnar comes forward, one Precursor unit on each flank. Jacks come up the centre.

Blockader runs forward on the left, shy of being stabbed range. Galleon gets damage buffed from the Choir, walks forward on the right and flings an AoE to kill Ragman. Also clips a Precursor, thanks to Eilish' reroll and Deceleration I don't trigger Vengeance, so good stuff.
One Vanguard runs to be between the wall and Galleon, Precursors don't have pathfinder so no fears their.

SWANS DOS
The Lancer runs super far forward, Stryker toddles up behind the forest and arcs his debuff against the Daughters. Misses. Suck it.

Left unit of Precursors spread out in front of the Blockader with the Devil's Shadow losers behind them.

Rowdy and the Archon move vaguely in the centre.

On the rightside Gallant gets Energisererererered forward and charges the forward Vanguard. Gets its pokes in and leaves the Vanguard without arms.
The Precursors on this side move up and clump around, behind them in the Trench Jakes 2, Savio and Alexa2 have a snuggle party.

THE GOOD AND RIGHTEOUSLY EMPLOYED MERCS ROUND 2
For most of the opposing moves I was salivating on exactly how the Blockader was going to kill Stryker. Probably Jackhammer the three Precursors in the way.
Rowdy then moves in the way. Not to worry, the Galleon can Harpoon him. Then the Archon moved to Shield Guard position. Rats.
I wavered a little on trying the low odds Galleon nipple shots, ultimately it wasn't going to pan out. Belated attrition plays must sadly continue.

On the extreme left side, the healthy Vanguard runs well out of control to toe the left zone, where it can begin a duel with the Devil's Shadow.
The extreme right is loads flashier, as Anastasia ambushes in with just enough range to charge and kill Jakes, shutting down Gallant. Things are now looking pretty good.

Choir throw out the damage buff to the colossals.
Blockader then sprays on the unit fanned out it front of it, kills all bar two and pops one of the Devil's Shadow.

Rightwise the Galleon....yeah, that thing.....sorta shuffles to failure? There was some weird plan in my mind about trying to ping Rowdy with a bunch of shots, then actually Harpoon something else on the right side.
I ended up rolling low shots which did one box to Rowdy. Hnurgh. Killed the Thrall Warrior on the flag at least. Whatever the Harpoon went for it missed.

MacBain feated on the Daughters and Ragman who then ran in to either contest or shield the Colossals, mostly the Galleon given the load of Precursors in front of it.

MacBain goes behind the Galleon and forest to live in fear and ignomy.

Yeah, the choir are lined up not to live up to their namesake, rather a delusional plan that I'd have the feat token to put an invulnerable wall in front of MacBain.

SWAN 3: POP GOES THE......AW SHIT, THAT WAS WORTH 33 POINTS
Left wise the pair of remaining Mutineers charge the Vanguard. Let the duel of ages......begin elsewhere, pretty sure the Jack wins that one eventually.

Stryker gets pathfinder and goes full Super Saiyan. Charges the Blockader. Didn't think of that. Gets +10 strength and rolls for self inflicted damage to.......die.

I'll take it! Glorious anti-climatic victory!

Is presumably what a different version of me gets to write and leave it. Nope, Stryker takes middling damage and puts the Blockader down to half a dozen or so health, camping 3 and popping feat.
Rowdy tramples up. The Archon goes in and kills the Colossal to the box.

On the right the Galleon gets lightly scratched and all the Daughters get punched to the ground. The three box Vanguard......becomes the one box Vanguard. Didn't see that coming.

MERC 3: LETS GET SKASE IN REDNUT STEAMPUNK FORM
Stryker is pretty far forward, camping 3, half health with Rowdy next to him. The Galleon won't be clearing out that many enemy troops, so assassination it is (Plus he'd just Velocity to MacBain and kill him).

Galleon can't get there as the Archon is in the way. Has to be MacBain.
The Daughter unit stands up, a bunch walk around Stryker to ensure the Least Disturbance doesn't push Stryker away from Macbains charge distance.
Galleon goes, Cranes MacBain forward. Picks up the Archon and throws it at Stryker. He-urgh! Due tot eh distances involved it had to be a targetted throw. The Eilish re-roll got used on hitting the Archon. Stryker is missed, the resulting drift and placement slightly pushes Rowdy so at least the Red Head doesn't get the defensive bonus. Also knocks him down, so MacBain can properly have a go.

Ideally the Archon would have died. Sadly he got left on one box (Damaged Earlier by Galleon shots).

Yeah, he flubbs it. Leaves Stryker on one box. I desperately scratch my feeble rubbery brain looking for other attacks.

WE cast our net and procured our reluctant, incompetent heroes. They're proxied. They're MAT 4. I didn't check their P+S but it probably is pretty bad. THE CHOIR CHARGE. I can get two on Stryker. The other two go for the Archon, cause that guy can get flubbed.

Yeah, no hits. A shocking turn of events.

SWAN 4: ROWDY CRIT KNOCK DOWNS MACBAIN AND CREEPILY LICKS HIS FACE TO DEATH

So that was a thing. Torn on list design going forward now that the sillyness is resolved. Don't think lists can be this small and tight in this style of steamroller. Also Archons seem disappointingly mandatory, so those will go in.
