Gorten - Earthbreaker, Thor, Hawk, Madelyn, Gorman, Tinker, Ragman, Anastasia, 2x Press Gangers, pAlexia + Risen, Gun Mages + The Dude
Objective: Effigy of Valor
First round is Outflank, with ye old Outflank. Not a favourite of mine, slow burn scenarios being counter to my scenario jam list plan.
Rolled up Robeenus, with the most interesting of the Cyriss characters.
Mortenebra + Derry (Tier 4) - Deathjack, Harrower, 3x Inflictor, Stalker, Mobius, Bloat Thrall, 2x Warwitch Sirens
Merc Deploy: I won the roll and picked first. Whether or not that was the right call I'm unsure, I wasn't super invested in the terrain, scoring first when that isn't super likely to put me in a position to win by scenario doesn't feel especially advantageous.
One Proxy from me, Junior = Thor.
Cryx Deploy: Allright, helmets on, super proxy time!
- Bonejack (On AD line) = Stalker (Which, I now realise doesn't have Advance Deploy. Weird, it would really fit the ethos of the model)
- Black Basecoat Seether = Harrower
- Three other Seethers (One plastic, 2 painted) = the Inflictors
- Pair of Brute Thralls = Mobius and Bloat friend, Mobius is the left one with black fists
- Skarlock = Derrylis
- Cephalx on a base = Mortenebra
Merc 1: I run up in a weird curved formation. Strength of Granite and Solid Ground go up. Gorman clouds in front of Gorten. Anastasia goes up with the right mob of Gangers(Ye old Smurfs).
Cryx 1: I'd already forgotten about the Brute Thralls being Bloats, Mobius puts Assault on himself, go forward behind the wall and catches four Press Gangers and Madelyn. They all get Corroded and the guy directly hit splatter hard. The other Bloat goes on the hill and tries to scatter some Corrosion, but rolls badly and hits nothing.
DJ gets Overrun, advances to hug the wall next to Mobius, misses a Press Ganger with a Doom Spiral and puts Spectral Steel on himself.
Cryx somewhat divides into two groups, each zone getting a Witch and a Bloat, Morty with one Inflictor, DJ and Harrower lean toward the left where there is a wall, Stalker and two Inflictors camp out on the hill that pokes into the right zone.
Merc 2: Corrosion does a point to Madelyn and kills two more Commies.
Thinking time. Normally against Jack lists I'd aim to knock a few down with Torpedoes and jam in to strain focus, this doesn't work as Morty has Jumpstart and there is a lot of soul collection across the table.
I instead decide to throw the Earthbreaker shots into Deathjack, in hindsight a low odds maneuver.
The Press Gangers flood a zone each, surprisingly they do ding a couple of the Jacks for some damage.
Madelyn runs to the right zone, Hawk goes to the left, just in case the Gangers in the left all die and the right ones fail a command check.
Earthbreaker gets Tuned up Damage, moves up, knocks down DJ, hurts Mobius a little and other pings him for damage. I roll a bit under average overall I think, doing about 10 or so damage with my 6 shots. Alexia creates a Thrall, who goes in and does an OK swing, takes out the movement. Gun Mages move up on the right side, clump up and kill the right Bloat Thrall, whose explosion kills the nearby War Witch.
Gorten throws up a wall in front of him and Alexia, Gorman hides behind the Earthbreaker.
I had a real quandary with the wall. I can try to protect the Earthbreaker of Gorten. With Overrun a Jack can make the distance to either, I went with Gorten because no Warcaster means you lose.
Cryx 2: Missed the Pic alas.
Morty feats and Temporal Accelarates.
The left Warwitch sprays down the three Press Gangers jamming the left most Inflictor, who charges and kills Hawk. The Stalker goes into the right zone, one Inflictor shields Morty, another kills some Press Gangers.
The Harrower and Deathjack get Overrunned forward, Deathjack takes out two thirds of the Earthbreaker, the HArrower kills most of the Gun Mages and hits Alexia for a bit.
Merc 3: Simple enough, feat to core on the right and use the Earthbreaker to kill DJ and the Harrower, Dominate a zone and try to jam up with Risen.
Gorten Intrigues across, goes into the zone, walls in front of him and feats things to the left.
Gorman rusts a Risen to get both DJ and the Harrower, Tuned up Earthbreaker kills DJ and takes off most of the Harrowers health. Alexia finishes the job, Risen go into the Stalker and damage it somewhat.
The pair of remaining Gun Mages kill Mobius and the War Witch.
Anastasia runs up to the hill in the right zone.
Mercs go to 2 CP.
Cryx 3: Inflictor in the left zone under Gortens feat kill the last three Commies. The other Inflictor then kills the Tinker and Earthbreaker. The Back Inflictor, also suffering from Gortens feat, clears off Risen. The Stalker toes the right zone, taking a few points from a free striking Risen. Morty goes into the left zone, out of Alexia Intrigued charge range.
Cryx go to 2 CP.
Merc 4: Easy enough, keep Gorten away from death, score the right zone, use Alexia to grind off another Inflictor.
Gorman rusts the Inflictor that killed the Inflictor, Alexia goes in and kills it, Risen spread around. Press Gangers kill the Scavenger.
Gorten runs into the zone, Gun Mages go in the centre of the circle.
Anastasia toes the left zone.
I mispositioned here badly here, in that Alexia was now far away from recharging with Corpses. I think I would have been better off charging the top Inflictor and keeping the Gun Mages and Gorman to the bottom of the right zone as the tools to clear that zone if needed.
Mercs go to 4 CP.
Cryx 4: Morty and left Inflictor kill some Risen. Top Inflictor tramples into the right zone, killing a pair of Risen and Press Gangers.
Merc 5: Kill of that final Inflictor and I'll win on scenario.
Gorten charges the Inflictor in the zone, he burns his stack and does some damage but doesn't kill. I was hoping for a Crit Slam, really I should have been boosting the damage rolls.
Gorman sprints up the centre of the board, as does Piper.
Anastasia uses Esponiage, triggers Gorman, Alexia and the Press Gangers.
Gorman moves to within three of the Inflictor, throws a Rust bomb and auto hits.
Alexia moves to a charge location.
Of the four Press Gangers, three move to the back arc and do a series of attacks, do average damage rolls.
Anastasia sends herself into the left zone to annoy Morty.
The Press Gangers activate normally and finish off the Inflictor.
Me on the right.
Round 1 win, this goes against 90% of my Slam experiences. I also thought I'd get a Rick and Morty joke in there, but it just didn't have a space.
Primary mistake is not starting with a solid plan, simply possessing a vague notion that that if I ran Press Gangers and feated I'd be fine. The long term scenario game is still where it is at I think, but the Gun Mages should have been kept back to Thunderbolt late in the game.
Normally for Cryx I'd drop Durgen, I'm very uncertain on how that game plays out. With careful target selection and intelligent Primed use I think it works out, but keeping Durgen alive is a greater task than doing so for Gorten.
