Sunday Slam besets us!
Rocking out the next iteration of my Durgen list, pulling out the Double Pressgangers/Grogspar and a Bunny to fit in Boomhowlers and the Gun Mages. I found that the list originally didn't have enough guns and the Pirate boat in both lists was leaning things in a bad way in the matchups in my head.
Durgen - 2x Gunny Bunnies, Gastolleon, Boomhowlers, ATGM + Dude, Dougal, eEiryss, Rockbottom, Reinholdt, Aiyanna + Holt
Objective: Effigy of Valor
Opening matchup was into the Russmonger once more. Euch, this is not the Legion drop I was looking for.
eThagrosh - 2x Scythean, Seraph, 2x Raek, 2x Protector, Spell Martyr, 2x Shepherd, 2x Forsaken
Objective: Irrelaphant.
Close Quarters, for some Killbox goodness.
Legion Deploy: The table to my left was rocking Crushinator and Sally, the local pair of Animantaraxes. My potato camera clearly couldn't cope.
I won the roll and picked the side with a hill. The legion deploy weighted extremely heavily on their flag and opposing the Galleon, with a Shepherd out in no mans land on the right.
Merc Deploy: Obscured by Animantarax rays is Eiryss on the left flank.
Legion 1: It all folds out, Scytheans behind the leading Raeks to stop drags, Tenacity goes on most things and Dragons Blood is placed on the left Scythean. The no-friends Shepherd runs way up the right because they can.
Merc 1: Boomhowlers get Primed, 4+ tough and run around. Artillerist goes on Galleon, which moves up and kills the right Raek with some awesome blast damage rolls. The Gun Mages, Durgen and Bunnies swing up on the right side. Eiryss moves up the extreme left, Aiyanna and Holt cower behind the Galleon.
I messed up the Boomhowlers deploy here, they were placed hemming in the Galleon so it couldn't advance first and do shots without even the minimal risk of pinging them.
Legion 2: Seraph/Raek clear out a bunch of the Boomhowlers, said Raek ends up in front of the Galleon. Primed takes out most of the Seraph Spirit and wrecks the Raek pretty bad. A Shepherd runs up to my flag. Scytheans run forward, Thags feats and they both get attacks on Durgen, one puts him down to eight health, the other misses.
Well, ****. I'd advanced Durgen to be in the Killbox early, evidently I should have waited until turn two for that shenanigan. Better Bunny/Boomhowler placement also would have helped out.
Merc 2: Pretty simple plan, both Scytheans have to die, Durgen has to go back as far as possible then I can probably out attrition with the Galleon.
Galleon walks in, easily crunches one Scythean to death but can't buy a last attack as he is out of range of the second Scythean.
Holt walks to the hill, Aiyanna stays back. She Harms the Scythean, he kills the Raek.
Durgen walks to max Melee range, burns all his focus to hit the Scythean for under average damage. The Gun Mages then push the Scythean back and crit knock him down, then wound a Forsaken and miss the Shepherd. Gun Bunnies ping the Scythean for a bit more, then finally the remaining pair of in command Boomhowlers charge and kill it.
Tactical error here, forgetting to activate Reinholdt before Durgen.
Strategically, I contemplated Powerstriking the Scytheans with the Galleon, if I had the damage output that would have been better but I don't think I have enough high POW attacks after that. Hindsight being what it is, the Bunnies should have had focus, Galleon attacks, Gun Mages aim and thundershot the Scythan away, Bunnies/Boomies go then I can Reload Durgen, move him way back and shoot down the Scythean with a Case Cracker.
Legion 3: Thagrosh moves up, sprays the Gun Bunnies to kill a Boomhowler and do nothing to the Gun Bunnies,, Manifests Destiny. Blocking Boomhowler dies to a Protector, Prime explosion doesn't do enough to stop the Seraph swooping in and killing Durgen.
Me on the right.
Mostly happy with how that went, highlights that I need to keep Durgen safe from quick moving melee and continue to not play him into Legion in multi-list formats.
