Game 287/88 - Jaga Jaga1/Maelok1 vs Kaya3 - Short Forms

Game 287/88 - Jaga Jaga1/Maelok1 vs Kaya3 - Short Forms
Outlast

A couple mini-ports as these were just settling in games.
I basically couldn't sleep very well the night before and hadn't been happy with my Champions lists (Part of why I was disinclined to deal with the format at Cancon) so I dreamed up some other things, knocked the cards together last minute.

Jaga vs Kaya3 - Jaga has a Dracodile, Spitter, Boneswarm, Dahlia, Ninja Pig, host of solos. Will Work for Food obviously.
Kaya is a pair of stalkers, a pureblood, some stones. Loads of Griffons.

I get first turn.
A Dracodile running up to 14 inches feels pretty damn glorious.
My shit gets up the board.

Circle  move around, popping animi like they are ecies that somehow came with a use by date.
Kaya opts for a bold placement, using the flags and an obstruction to avoid Princess Salty getting into melee.

Alas for Circle, Ninja Pig threatens in a non-Linear way. The Saltess gets prodded with memories of being stood up at prom and spews forth, blinding Kaya. A Turtle shot, Ancillary spray and a couple Brine attacks get it done.

Poor River Raiders, didn't even the chance to do some work. List changed almost immediately after, losing a Boneswarm for a Bullsnapper so I could have the Swamp Gobbers, not having a unit to score sucked Hemipenes hypothetically.

...look, I need models to get up the board and be feated on ok? Yes, I'll try them again. No, I sodding doubt they'll make it much further in the list testing process.

Maelok Posse Spam vs Kaya3 - I try the Gator mob of four max units.
This game goes a fairways longer, Circle go first and get up the board.
I opt not to feat so I can be Incoporeal later.
Kaya feats, some Gators get Mauled. Nearly every beast runs super hot on Fury.
I try to get Squirrelly, popping Incooporeal and running Gators so that the Circle Beasts will frenzy on each other. I also have a unit surround Kaya.
The frenzies happen, alas a Stalker marches back and frees up Kaya.

From their I quickly get a clock win, we play on for a while anyway.

It pans out that Maelok has to hide like a hibernating Ostrich Egg, while Posse are in the right range for Stalkers to come in, pop a few and piss off.

My only recourse in running Gators after them and struggling on scenario, eventually getting to a point where Gator losses versus Revive are unsustainable. One of the last Griffons Dodging and preventing the Wrastler clearing the left zone is enough for me to call it quits.

After the instant soul binding I felt with the Jaga list and the interesting plays it could probably do, the Maelok list is an outright boring disappointment. Feels like a lamer version of Madrak1 with Champs. I don't see a way to make a Maelok list without snipping his Spell card in half effectively, which is mighty meh. I'll just work out Barny lists anyway for champs and not get to concerned about old Leather and Bones, he can just be all

Cancon 18 - Who's the Boss

Cancon Who's the Boss time!

I tried the bruised, cut up and mangled version of Rask. I spent every game screwing math up in the expectation of having Boundless Charge.

Game 1 - I draw Orion and go into Haley1 piloting some Cryx. I get up pretty well, courtesy of Vault taking out Banes and using them to whack the Wraith Engine under Spell Piercer. It all comes undone when I spend all of Orion's focus and only partially block him, thinking Convergence caster stats would seem me through. Turns out Sun Dial head forms a super easy target and he implodes like a tomato skin filled Gelatin and lust for power. Doh.

Game 2 - It's my excellent opponent from the last Team game!
I draw Bethayne and Belphagor. I got her last year, at least this time I have warrior models to get the benefit from her feat (Then again I was just playing with Gun Bunnies and Reinholdt, so that's on me).
It's into Doomy2 with Skorne!
Turns out I know Skorne well, but know basically nothing about Troll casters.
He puts Fury on my beasts on the top of 2, plus using overtake and feat to get the Aradus into the Vault to kill it. Bugger.
After that it's desperately clawing upward, of particular note is the Trawler ambushes in and kills the Swordsman UA before Power Swell gets popped, which later on allows the Wrastler to survive their charges.
It's a cagey game, the left zone is a pantomine story of the Gator Witch Doctor chasing around after a Gremlin Swarm having left it on one box. Bethayne's arm debuff is a saving grace, letting me kill beasts in the middle.
That opening ground is hard to drag back to even field and Skorne starts scoring. It ends up being Bethayne with a critical venom spray to stop the winning scoring and allow the Wrastler to contest the right, afterwhich with under a minute left the only opposing option is to charge the Wrastler with Doomie. He snake eyes his charge attack and that's basically that.

Game 3 - I get Garryth and play into Jarl with Menites, of note it's a Revelator with Daughter Cav.

Jarl feats super earlier than necessary, Mirage lets a Boneswarm go in and leave the Dervish on sweet fuck all boxes.
I feat to force Jarl back and get the Wrastler in place to threaten the Revelator.

There's a little back and forth, ultimately I max out my beasts to kill everything bar Jarl, the Idrian leader and the out of command scout.
Garryth is hiding behind a pile of Shamblers, which doesn't matter at all when he's next to the Vault.
Three Magic Bullets happen and leave him on two boxes. As........I thought.....would....happen.....yeah.......baby.......
Shambler then muches on Jarl. Nom nom nom nom nom nom.

Who's the Boss is hilarious. A pile of nonsense, but fun nonsense.

Game 286 - Cancon Masters Semi Final - Rask1(BC) vs Harbinger1(TFM)

Game 286 - Cancon Masters Semi Final - Rask1(BC) vs Harbinger1(TFM)
Outlast

The only downside of that last team game was it left bedraggled and out of it. I had a short break, then it was the master semi-finals into the God Botherers.

A whole bunch of things basically encourage my list choice:
 • I (mistakenly) thought that el'Parbinger faced Azahul, a more experienced Pig player than myself, earlier in the tournament and won, thus leading me to believe he had experience against Arkadius and knew what to do
 • Menoth isn't a strong matchup for me as a player at this point, feels like it's been forever since I played against them
 • Arkadius doesn't really want Harbinger. Awe and Martydom both make Pig rampage hard.
 • Rask has plenty of units for the scenario
So.....yeah.....this happens:

Minion Army - 75 / 75 points
[Theme] The Blindwater Congregation
(Rask 1) Rask [+27]
 - Blackhide Wrastler [16]
 - Boneswarm [7]
 - Boneswarm [7]
 - Boneswarm [7]
Bog Trog Mist Speaker [0(4)]
Bog Trog Trawler [3]
Gatorman Witch Doctor [0(4)]
Swamp Gobber Chef [1]
Totem Hunter [0(6)]
Croak Raiders (max) [16]
Gatorman Bokor & Bog Trog Swamp Shamblers [10]
Gatorman Posse (max) [16]
Swamp Gobbers Bellows Crew [2]
Sacral Vault [17]

Hissing scathingly at:

Protectorate Army - 75 / 75 points
[Theme] The Faithful Masses
(Harbinger 1) The Harbinger of Menoth [+24]
 - Devout [9]
 - Templar [15]
 - Hierophant [3]
Allegiant of the Order of the Fist [3]
Allegiant of the Order of the Fist [3]
Champion of the Order of the Wall [8]
Champion of the Order of the Wall [8]
High Paladin Dartan Vilmon [0(6)]
Paladin of the Order of the Wall [4]
Paladin of the Order of the Wall [4]
Paladin of the Order of the Wall [4]
Rhupert Carvolo, Piper of Ord [4]
The Covenant of Menoth [0(4)]
Horgenhold Forge Guard (max) [16]
 - Attendant Priest [3]
Idrian Skirmishers (max) [15]
 - Idrian Skirmisher Chieftain & Guide [0(5)]

Table wise, we have a load of forests on one side, a central obstruction, a hill on the right and another obstruction on the extreme right.

The plan on my end is to just contest the side zone as clearing all of Harby's dudes feels unfeasible, set stuff on fire to force the double Martydom and do a slow grind out scoring on my flag and throwing Shamblers away to contest.

Menoth 1: The ranting fanatics run up the board fairly evenly. Idrians lean toward the left against their prey, being the Croaks.
Kicking Monks are on the board. Am sad. Much dissapoint.

Minion 1: I put Fury on the Totem Hunter and run him far left to see if I can avoid the purification bubble. Seems unlikely.
A handful of the croaks move up to die and get fire going on some enemy solos. I land Darts on both the Paladin and the Champion, only for the oil to be Shield Guarded. Oh yeah. Templar's do have that rule. Waxed testes.

I move up the Admonitioned Boneswarm next to these Croaks behind the obstruction, it's a model I'm not phased about losing so that's something.

Rask moves up the centre and feats, shoots the right kicky monk and paralyzes him.
The Vault rolled max souls, so it advances and takes a shot. Snake eyes, Kicky Monk takes a half step back out of range.
Dammit Vault, THAT WAS NOT THE PLAN.

Posse Dirge out of habit and toe the right zone, with a Boneswarm escort (As in, it's travelling alongside and chilling out rather than solisciting).

Menoth 2: Idrians move around, they get some shots but roll ineptly (No Vault, this doesn't mean we're okay) and kill a Croak. I opt not to trigger admonition to engages a few of them before they repo back.
Harby moves behind her theme wall, stretches that mighty 20 inches and makes me regret the failed trigger just before, alas Totem Hunter is also is range so upkeeps go away.

Kicky monk goes next to the building contesting my flag.

Minion 2: Not going to lie, this isn't really a game where a lot happens every turn, I'm be lazy and short form it.

I'm an absolute moron that failed to deploy all my models, my opponent graciously offers to let me plonk them in the back which I do. Just.....the smartest of people.

Totem Hunter runs way up the side to try to get to the back field.
Croaks flail at things a bit with fire sticks.
Rask, a Posse member and the Vault fail to kill the kicky monk by dint of tough and martydom.
I also do the wrong Posse prayer so they don't get as far up the board into things as planned.

No dead kicky monk, no score.

Menoth 3: A Champion gets the distance to kill Totem Hunter. My brain cells headbutt each other to death in an attempt to wipe out the parts being inept.
half the croaks get shot down, Menoth score their flag. Harby feats. Most Posse die.

0-1.

Minion 3: I walk a shambler in, it dies to remind me that Harby has feated. My god I wished I was allowed to drink at this con.

Rask + Vault + Posse fail to deal with kicky Monk again.
Shamblers and junk move into the left zone, Wrastler goes up in the hope of at least eating something. Bone swarm goes in front of him to draw the Templar in.

Menoth 4: Templar goes in, rolls like hot flaming garbage and doesn't kill the Boneswarm.
Rask gets charged by a Paladin and a Champion, I stupidly transfer damage to mess up the Wrastler before needing to call to sacrifice Shamblers anyway.

0-2

Minion 4: I kill the Templar. Woot. Vault fails to hurt the things that attacks Rask, he used Call to Sacrifice to walk away at the expense of his merry fellows, because he's a dick.
I stationary the left Champ. It's something.

I fail to even contest, 0-3.

Round 5: When in doubt, remember your jumping like a horse hero.

Menites grind away, there's a muckup where the left Champion activation has to be re-wound due to the Stationary.

0-4

Alright. When in doubt, sod it, kill the damn leader.
Wrastler pops a couple Idrians to feed the vault and make way.
Bokor walks forward, boosted 12 to Stationary Harby who has no anti-magiuc tech up, after which the Vault has max souls, maybe a Rask shot, three or so Croaks.

Or......I can miss the 12. Damnable averages!

The follow up plan to roll hard 18's turned out to not be a good redundancy, Menoth get their 5th control point and I flop to the ground. Blergh. Awful showing, filled with regrets for how shonky my play was.Good thing Batinator is amongst the friendliest of men and put up without a complaint in sight.

Reeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaallllyyyyy needed to have the Bog Trog Trawler in my deployment space instad of ambushing. Would have dragged the right Kicky monk away and bam, the plan is actually on.

Game 285 - Cancon Teams Rnd3 - Arkadius1 (WWfF) vs Zaadesh2 (MoW)

Game 285 - Cancon Teams Rnd3 - Arkadius1 (WWfF) vs Zaadesh2 (MoW)
Spread the Net

Final round of the teams event.
Rando thought (Unlike my normally super laser pointed thought process....): Lots of aspects of the tournament packets that have been contentious (Character limits and D/C limits being the primary examples) have produced as one of their arguments that they add a layer of difficulty and required skill to attempt to find the best player. I've never found that convincing or felt it to be true, however I beleive that a thought through team matching process in the style of WTC or even this on the day event is a realisation of htat actual process. Team matchups do matter, table choice can be correct, Josh was super proud to show his nipples.

Round 3 into Better Lucky Than Good.
This has the most open series of tables and has the most matchups we're concerned about, so we select matchups.

The opposing list has a Skorne Zaal2/Zaadesh 2 that our CoC player wants to avoid, a Legion pair of lists that we were all content with and Circle with Krueger2 and a boule Wold Wrath list our Merc player wanted to avoid. Difficulties here is we're out to avoid matches rather than hit good ones with yellow backups.

I think it goes down as they offer up legion, so we put forward Minions and Mercs, they pic Mercs. I then get to choose Skorne and leave Convergence with Circle.

It's into Skorne, with Zaal2 and Zaadesh2. Hmm. Ultimately I opt for Arkadious as he has game into most Skorne stuff, Rask isn't solo heavy and at 50 points doesn't handle Spread the Net well  and I'm hoping the Sacral Vault will scare away the list with chockers of Immortals.

I don't know the end thought process on teh Skorne end, however we end up with:

Minion Army - 50 / 50 points
[Theme] Will Work for Food
(Arkadius 1) Dr. Arkadius [+32]
 - Battle Boar [7]
 - Gorax Rager [7]
 - Gorax Rager [7]
 - Razor Boar (2) [7]
 - Razor Boar (2) [7]
 - Road Hog [16]
 - Road Hog [16]
 - War Hog [15]
 - Targ [0(4)]
Gatorman Witch Doctor [0(4)]
Hutchuck, Ogrun Bounty Hunter [0(6)]

Fighting like a rabid sheep in a back alley against a living dumpster:

Skorne Army - 50 / 50 points
[Theme] Imperial Warhost
(Zaadesh 2) Lord Tyrant Zaadesh [+28]
 - Agonizer [0(6)]
 - Razor Worm [7]
 - Titan Gladiator [15]
 - Titan Sentry [15]
 - Titan Sentry [15]
 - Titan Sentry [15]
Feralgeist [2]
Paingiver Beast Handlers (max) [7]
Swamp Gobbers Bellows Crew [2]

I win the roll and select first.
Most improtant piece of terrain is the obstruction in the centre.
I get an annoying forest in my backfield and a less than helpful wall blocking my access to my own rectangle.
There's also a blob of water on the right and some terrain on the Skorne side that doesn't really come up.

Minion 1: Plan is simple, run up and see if Zaadesh pops his dfeat. If he doesn't I alpha hard, if he does then damn, it means he knows how the mstchup pans out and I have to pull back and wait things out. Forced Evo goes on the War hog to punch through the opposing Heavy Armour, Arkadius has Guardian Beast up due to limited opposing ranged attacks.

Skorne 1: Everything moves up in a brick style. Swamp Gobbers pop their cloud on the left.
Zaadesh does feat and puts down Battle Charged and a Cloud touching the Obstruction.
Beast Handlers run out the front, where they can defensive strike and put Fury on beasts that come in. That's really nice tech, I love it.
Razor Wurm hovers out on the right and pops his Animus, Digs In.

Minion 2: Hmmm. Has to be a back up and see how it goes plan. The opposing list is also super low in terms of solo numbers, so finding a way to pop that Feralgeist is definitely something to do.

The Road Hogs walk back and spray down some of the Paingivers and one of the Swamp Gobbers.
Razor Boars run around on both sides, one on the left goes deep into enemy lines to be a pork blast node, one on the right triggers a countercharge from the Razor Wurm that messes it up. Whoops.

Arkadius chills back, Primal Shocks the Feralgeist and a Paingiver to death. Good times.
Targ runs to my friendly flag, Skorne either has to contest in a less than ideal way or let me score.

Skorne 2: Left wise, a Sentry gets Rushed and runs to contest my flag. Another goes in and kills the Porknode Razor Boar, however the little pig remaining gets to chill out and countercharge the first Sentry in the back while still contesting. The Krea leans toward this side.

Centrally, the Gobber and a pair of Zaadesh cloud make a line of sight blocking with the obstruction.
The remaining heavies and Zaadesh chill back behind the obstruction.

Rightwise the Razor Wurm toes my rectangle and eats the Razor Boar it countercharged in my turn previous.

No one scores.

Minion 3: I opt once again to not feat, I think I can kill the forward Sentry with a Road Hog and sprint him to safety, get some points on the board and just get ahead by keeping at arms length.

Left wise I Crippling Grasp the Sentry, put Primal and Forced Evo on the relevant Road Hog.
Road Hog goes in, alas he falls just shy of killing on the third bought attack and he has to max instead of getting to Sprint away. Does get the kill thankfully.
Razor Boar stays toeing the Skorne zone.

Centrally the War Hog and other Road Hog toe the centre zone, using the obstruction to prevent being in threat range of the Gladiator and right side Sentry. Roadie also shoots down the remaining Swamp Gobber.

Rightwise, I screw the pooch with a drill like a lame Jigsaw sequel, they really need to stop trying to keep in locked into the original killer and just let copy cats reign. Hutchuck ambushed in to go to the Skorne flag for a free point, however I schoolgirl teehee-d and through a knockdown grenade at the serpentine beast, doing some damage and letting him Hyper Aggresive to engage the Ogrun. Just dumb.
Gorax, Battle Boar and Rabo chill in the vicinity of my rectangle.

I go up 2-0 on teh defensive scenario elements.

Down to round 5: We play under tight clock pressure, they I keep a lead on it.
Left wise a Sentry fails to kill the Road Hog, then gets counter killed.
Hutchuck and a Razor Boar duel the Razor Wurm for the rest of the game.

Centrally the Gladiator, remaining Sentry and Xekaar wheel around the obstruction.

Round 5: I finally feat, killing the Agoniser and using a Gorax to kill the Krea which was the last piece on the left side. I flail at the remaining Skorne beasts. Zaadesh goes to the Skorne flag, but can't contest me on the elft and is low on clock so concedes.

Great game. Would love to see how we go at 75 points, though I once again failed to utilise Guardian Beast in any capacity.

Team wise....
Our Merc player wins despite managing to knock his Gorten down and CoC goes super well right up until Krueger2 TK's the world, so we go up 2-1 and come 3rd.
These things are sweet, especially when someone else does the pain that is trying organising teams for an event.

Round 2 into Gigantor's Angels.

We get tables and use our one matchup choice to establish a Merc off. Both sides otherwise have a Convergence player with the least experience on the team.

Minion Army - 50 / 50 points

Gatorman Witch Doctor [0(4)]
Hutchuck, Ogrun Bounty Hunter [0(6)]

My legs feel like veal. They've finally mooshed and attempted to become delicious instead of walking implements.

Convergence Army - 49 / 50 points
[Theme] Destruction Initiative
(Syntherion 1) Forge Master Syntherion [+27]
 - Assimilator [16]
 - Corollary [6]

 - Prime Axiom [38]
Algorithmic Dispersion Optifex [2]
Attunement Servitors [0(4)]
Attunement Servitors [0(4)]
Reflex Servitors [0(4)]
Optifex Directive [4]

I take the table my team mates reject. I'm like a reverse of however that ad for Salmon goes.
Salmon is a stupid word. Just drop the "L".

I've got another series of forest blobs to advance on the Axiom, so that's nice. Can't afford to let the colossal drag in my heavies and kill them.

Round 1: I get first and run my shit forward into positions, Forced Evo on the right Road Hog.
War Hog moves behind a central wall.

CoC mostly shuffles around, runs forward an arc node dude who channels Magnetic Hold onto the War Hog. That's just annoying.

Minion 2: Primal goes ones a Gorax and the right Road Hog.

Arkadius moves way up the board, maltreats, feats and repositions to be behind the wall.

On the left, Rabo's get up the board to kill some Servitors. The Road Hog does a spray that kills the arc node dude. The Primalled Rabo goes into an Assimilator and mucks it up a fair bit.

The War Hog just limps across in the open, feebling requesting we put less metal in the drinking water of pigs.

Rightwise, Rabo attacks and frenzies clear out Shield Guards, allowing Hutchuck to rust the Axiom.
The fully buffed Road Hog goes into said colossal, it all falls apart  in flashback to the opening masters game the day before, doing about 2/3rds of what it needs.

CoC 2/Minion 3: Various Rabo's, the Primalled Gorax and Road plus Hutchuck all get killed as Syntherion feats to get work done. At some point the War Hog Hyper Aggresives forward.

Unfortunately CoC stay so far back that I manage to score the centre and right zone, then in my turn I just have to kill the enemy objective and win on scenario.

Alas, our own CoC also got brutalised whilst Ossrum survived Esponiaged Nomads coming for them. We go down 1-2. One more round to attempt to submarine to a placing!

Game 283 - Cancon Teams Rnd1 - Arkadius1(WWfF) vs Stryker1 (HM)

Game 283 - Cancon Teams Rnd1 - Arkadius1(WWfF) vs Stryker1 (HM)
Standoff

Masters Finals isn't until the night, so I relax into the midday starting 50 point teams event.

What is 50 points you ask? It's bullshit is what it is. You take a 75 point list and make noticably crapper in some way.

I've got cut down versions of Arkadius and Rask. Arkadius ends up with no units, Rask drops a Bone Swarm, Posse and a solo or two.

My name is apparently ripe for atrocious puns that cause me physical agony, so that apparently defaulted me to being the captain.
Three man teams, one side pics the first matchup and table, other side gets to pick the other two matchups.

We've got my Minions, Mercs with Magnus2/Gorten1 and Convergence with Axis/Orion (That's right. CoC don't get numbers. Because they aren't ever getting an epic caster. My claims along these lines have never been wrong, which is why Orion doesn't actually exist, it's a group mirage we need to overcome).

Opening round is into High Quality Leather Luggages, with Swans (Stryker1 and Stryker3), enemy Minions (Maelok and something) and opposing Convergence (Lucant and something).

I think we win the roll and pick tables, given there was a good table for Magnus and out of the other two was significantly better for our TEP's.

I put myself forward, not super sure what I'll get however the opposing Minions player was the one I had a pretty strong win against in the masters so if worse comes to worse I could try to repeat that.
The opposing team seemed wise to that little thought process, I get offered the Swans and the Cocs. Coc of the Swan if you will.

It works because real life Swans are actually stupidly awful. Like that person that loooks at their phone in the movies.

Lot of Convergence experience in my local land, less so with Cygnar so I take that match.
Matchups end up being:
Arkadius vs Stryker1
Magnus2 vs Lucant1
Orion vs Maelok1

Onto my match:

Minion Army - 50 / 50 points
[Theme] Will Work for Food
(Arkadius 1) Dr. Arkadius [+32]
 - Battle Boar [7]
 - Gorax Rager [7]
 - Gorax Rager [7]
 - Razor Boar (2) [7]
 - Razor Boar (2) [7]
 - Road Hog [16]
 - Road Hog [16]
 - War Hog [15]
 - Targ [0(4)]
Gatorman Witch Doctor [0(4)]
Hutchuck, Ogrun Bounty Hunter [0(6)]

Cygnar Army - 50 / 50 points
[Theme] Heavy Metal
(Stryker 1) Commander Coleman Stryker [+30]
 - Hurricane [39]
 - Squire [0(5)]
Captain Arlan Strangewayes [0(4)]
Field Mechaniks (max) [5]
Storm Strider [18]
Storm Strider [18]

I've no idea what Stryker3 does, so happy to avoid that nonsense.

Key for me is that the table is of various small forests, so I can use them to advance up to get the jump on the opposing Huge bases. Means the Gator Doc has to be protected, and there is a chance to put Crippling Grasp on the Hurricane. Long game is a concern, Stryker can feat to put off my alpha then I have to fear the Slam guns messing me up.

I win the roll and take first.

Minions 1: ADVANCE! WE OUTNUMBER THE FOE 10 TO 1 IN BATTLEGROUP MODELS!
....they have a colossal....
SILENCE! 10 TO 1! WE'LL BE FINE!
.....do the Razor Boars really count?
.....shutup.

Razor Boars run around to various spots, two of them move up into Snipe and pew pew range to encourage the Swans to move and shoot instead of running and making it hard for me to score in later turns if we get that far.
Road Hog up either flank with the right one getting Forced Evolution, War Hog goes up the middle in a forest ready to get pathfinder off the objective. Really dislike only having a single one of the heavy hitters, 50pts bah humbug.
Arkadius puts up Aggravator.

Cygnar 1: Stryker puts Snipe onthe right Strider, Arcane shield on the hurricane and Blur on himself, then walks up to the wall.
Hurricane walks forward, kills a Razor Boar with an AoE, the other Hyper Aggresives forward then dies to the elft Storm Strider, who walks up to a different wall.

At this point SawDru realises he didn't feat and Stryker is going to die, so he runs the right Stormstrider in front of him to salvage the situation.

Minions 2: Let's kill the red nut with to many nuts in his balls.

Primals get put out on all my heavies. It's time to GO HARD. Gatorman With Doctor puts Ghostly onteh right Road Hog, okay, NOW it's the time to GO HARD.

Arkadius feats, a Gorax, the buffed right Road Hog and the War Hog kill the right Stormstriderwith the feat frenzy attacks. Brutality.

Forced Evo'd Primalled Ghostly Road hog then charges Stryker, assault shot killing three or so of hte mechaniks as well. 'hog boosts to hit with both initials, gets the job done.

Alas for Druster, though the screw up was picked up pretty quick. Exect I'll never got that off him ever again. Sweet dude, need to crash his home town again and derp at a tournament.

Game 282 - Cancon Masters Rnd4 - Arkadius1 (WWfF) vs Fyanna2 (RoW)
Standoff

Last round before the cut to top four.

More Legion. Well, Arkadius it is. It's a Fyanna build I sure as hell haven't seen before, loads out ye old Raptors.

Legion Army - 75 / 75 points
[Theme] Ravens of War
(Fyanna 2) Fyanna, Torment of Everblight [+28]
 - Naga Nightlurker [8]
 - Neraph [12]

Grotesque Assassin [0(4)]

The Forsaken [4]
Blighted Nyss Raptors (max) [18]
Blighted Nyss Raptors (max) [18]
Hellmouth [6]

I win the die roll, couldn't say "first player" quick enough.

My side has a forest and a rock obstruction in around the defensive rectangle, Legion has some rubble and a wall on the right the Hellmouth hides behind.

Minion 1: Stuff runs up, with a leaning toward the centre and the right.
Forced Evo goes on a Road Hog that hides behind the obstruction, hoping to pop out with feat and kill the Hellmouth.

Legion 1: I wildly underestimate the damage output of Raptors, who easily kill the three Rabo's in the centre. Should have held them back. Fyanna decides to feat, which is unfortunate. Hellmouth gets Iron Flesh.

Minion 2: Well, this is a bad situation. I see my future, and it's annoying yo yo's by units shooting me to death. Have to feat and just get up the board.

On the left, one Road Hog assaults to spray down a Raptor and the Spell Martyr (No Gallowsing me please) then frenxies on a Rabo to the right to move into the rubble.
A Gorax toes the circle with a Gobber behind him providing a cloud.

Centrally my stuff mainly hides behind the rock. Sweet blessed rock.

Rightwise, RaBo's clear off tentacles, letting the Forced Evo'd Primalled Road Hog to kill the Hellmouth, then sprint up and engage a pair of Raptors alongside a Razor Boar escort.
More Gorax toeing.

Legion 2: The Naga Crit Shadowbinds the Road Hog in Cover. Stomach drops like it was dealt a furball covered in hot sauce. Raptors and a good Grotesque Assassin charge finish it off.

Beasts try to free up the right Raptors, Forced Evo does some good and the 'hog lives as does his Razor Boar attendant.

A Grotesque assassin runs into the right zone.

We both score our defensive rectangles, so 1-1.

Minion 3: Ye gods I might have a scenario chance.

First War Hog goes into the Legion zone and kills the Objective.
Other War Hog runs to the left zone. He then gets zapped by Orin, who boosts the damage rolls to kill the contesting Assassin and the two relevant Raptors. Every damage roll was super good, including the eleven one two dice to hurt the War Hog.
Gobbers toe the left zone. Gorax toes this zone and my rectangle.

In the right zone, the Gorax moves within 5" of the contesting Assassin, who then gets Primal Shocked to death as Arkadius toes the circle for scoring. Targ and the Battle Boar run to form a meat shield in front of him.

Frenzying Road Hog and Razor Boar in the extreme top right kill a Raptor apiece.

I score my rectangle, the objective and both Circles to go up 5-1. One CP away.

Legion 3: EVERBLIGHTS ORDERS YOU TO CONTEST.
The left three Raptors all move to the edges of the left circle.
Distraction Road Hog/Razor Boar finally die, as does the War Hog that was in the middle of the Legion zone. The other War Hog is still contesting the left corner though.
The back beasts toe the right circle.

The vital component is one Seraph that flies up to the top right corner of my zone with Admonition on it.

Nerither side scores.

[img]https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDPaAdZOFrHoJxn2wVrrE4b9-5lZC1ZwwIP2Zfx5_U9TvLPpJ2Gf5kErgnk72ollD9whyVqI_2LW_zwPO6I1EVw9fNAko6lbnrGd181nmsh585MEOvoVSooI5l_ZlC1ZWZQkv5jDiyWh6x/s1600/038+%2528800x450%2529.jpgp/img]
Mid-turn pic after the Admonition move.
Minion 4: It's all about triggering that Admonition then killing that Neraph, no other zone is clearable.
Arkadius Forced Evo's the only beast that's relevant, the Battle Boar. He puts Crippling Grasp on the Seraph, then moves up and engages, blocking the beast from trying to get away from the little pig. If it doesn't do it Arkadius jabs it with a needle and renders it stationary.

It moves back, away from Hutchuck's charge range.
I didn't forget the Ogrun, he just got denied ambush by the opposing tier, was Annyssa's Prey target so has just been chilling in my backfield this whole time.

Targ charges the Seraph to get out of the way, a shame as an Ancillary would have been nice.
Battle Boar charges the Seraph, hitting on 5's at +1 to damage. It's a 66% chance to win.
I fall one box short.

I then proceed to use an ability I never have before, the Gatorman's Sac Strike on Targ, which kills the Seraph and ends the game.
Awkwardly, this doesn't work and the call on the day was incorrect. I blame the Battle Boar.

Mowan takes it with good grace, though its obviously not the greatest end. Will need to play again and do it all fair and square.

Raptors....where the hell have these things been? Legion seem pretty damned fine to me sitting over here.

In any event, it's 4-0 and I make the cut to the masters final.

Nope, apparently physics is in order and Legion players are real. Why is the internet full of lies? Aren't Hellmouths passe and still in the lame phase of retro? Well, can they be then?

Legion equals Arkadius barring some weird Legionary build which wasn't on the cards, though damned if I can remember the other caster in the pairing.

I win the roll and select first. Because Arkadius things.
My side ends up with a blob of water that isn't the end of the world to navigate, a cloud in the centre zone that doesn't do squat for me and an L shaped forest
Legion get a defensive trench and a small forest to their right.
There is also a forest on the left and a wall on the right, I don't think either impact the game.

Minion 1: The Hellmouths sit toeing zones and being tools.
My stuff runs up, stays shy of the Hellmouth doing mean things range (11.5).
The right Road Hog moves up to be in range of getting Pathfinder from the objective, in hindsight he should have run up, used the Objective as an ablative anti-drag shield and been in normal charge range of the Hellmouth for #options.
I Forced Evo'd one of the War Hogs, Road Hogs didn't feel like they would be going for the beasts anyway.

The small number of opposing guns makes me opt for Guardian Beast over Aggravator.

Legion 1: Tentacles run forward to positions of annoyance (You know, on the board).
Blight Wasps form an intermixed screen in front of the other beasts that move up the centre.
Proteus gets the armour buff.

Minion 2: Alright, we have to feat and alpha. Hard. Primary targets are the Hellmouths, if they don't die then I'll just be boned, I can't handle my stuff being dragged around like that. Ideally I also kill Proteus, as his natural longer range threat is painful to try to work around.

I also herpaderp hard and ambush Hutchuck in to kill the Legion objective, which I can't do. You have failed me brain, if only it was for the last time.

The Road Hogs and the Forced Evo'd War Hog all get Primalled.

Arkadius feats, Razor Boars clear out tentacles that are in the way.
Primalled Heavies move up the board.

Targ runs up to the right to get the Herding aura up their, Arkadius wants to hang back and be a wimp.
The Roads Hogs then assault in, the left one sprays down a Forsaken, the right gets half of the Blight Wasps. The melee attacks kill both Hellmouths. The left Road Hog can't Overtake to anything, so it Sprints to engage the Scythean.
The other flails at the Seraph, doing nought.

Buff War Hog goes in, kills Proteus through the armour buff, gets a couple attacks on the Neraph that mess it up pretty badly.

Razor Boars wonder around, the remaining War Hog plants his arse in front of Arkadius.

Legion 2: Abby feats, moves forward and attacks things. She drowns in stolen fury points as she attacks stuff.

I lose all the Primalled heavies and a pair of Razor Boars, Abby stays toeing the centre zone but fails to score due to a Rabo on the right side.
Scythean toes the left zone, Neraph behind him.
Wasps and Seraph are on the edge of the right zone with a pair of damaged Rabo's, the Naga behind them.

The remaining Forsaken chills up the back, the remaining Spell martyr runs way to the right behind the wall toeing that zone as well.

Minion 3: I clearly flubbed my order of activations a little, as the rightmost Gorax didn't frenzy to clear his fury. net result I have to much Fury and he does the angry dance instead of going into the right zone. Awkward.

I'm lower on clock at this point, so I forgo thinking in to complicated a manner, stuff just needs to happen. Basic plan is attack were possible, do some proper shovelling in my next turn.

The left Gorax and Battle Boar advance, the latter toes the centre zone. They Primal the two left side Razor Boars, who charge the Scythean and throw out a nice amount of damage.
hutchuck charges the objective, flubbs the damage roll quite badly. Gobber Chef toes the zone.

Centrally, Arkadius hides behind the Swamp Gobbers and buffs the remaining War Hog.
Now Forced Evo'd and Primalled, he goes into the nearest Blight Wasp. he overtakes through the remaining three, then falls a millimetre shy of getting in on the Seraph. Bugger.

Rightwise, I lose a Razor Boar to a free strike, forgetting about Abby's feat still giving reach.
Target stands up after toughing out last turn, toes the zone and prays he lives.
Orin walks to this side in the backfield, prepping to fight for the right zone.

We don't need no scoring.

Legion 3: Abby chills out the back, pops Physco Surgery. Naga hides out behind her in the trench.

The War Hog prepares to die as the Rabo next to him is devoured by the Seraph. The Scythean wanders over, starts off extremely well then flubbs it a bit, leaving the 'hog alive on a handful of boxes. SURPRISE FORSAKEN CHARGE. It gets the job done and kills the heavy, sadness.

Neraph eats a Rabo on the left.

Spell Martyr almost charges targ, then realises it lacks the movement to do so. Live on mighty piglet!

Razor Boars basically keep me in the game as no points are scored.

Minion 4: I've manged my way back to a strong clock position. Plan is to prep for late game scoring on the side zones, keep Arkadius back.

Lefetwise, it goes bad almost straight away as Hutchuck charges the Objective and doesn't kill it.
Swamp Gobber Chef changes the corner it is sitting in waiting for his futile charge on the objective (POW 8, what could go wrong?).
Left Gorax advances, toes the zone and Primals the Battle Boar.

Battle Boar feels a surge of importance as he also then gets Forced Evo'd and Ghostly'ed.
It charges through the water at the Neraph, with an assist from a Razor Boar the legion beast goes down. When in doubt, throw Pig lives into the breach.

The Swamp Gobbers run up and contest the centre zone, one of them also toes the right.
Orin lightnings the Seraph, spends all his tokens to boost damage. Dings the Seraph, does nothing to the Scythean but importantly kills the Forsaken.
Arkadius chills in roughly the same position.

Right wise, this sides Gorax runs up and toes the zone, hiding behind my objective.
Targ has one box, but more than that he has quite good defensive stats as far as the Spell Martyr is concerned, so he runs to engage it.

Scoring is clearly lame.

Legion 4: Urk. Low on clock now, so pics stop. Prepare for murky memories at best.
Legion is losing on the minutes, so decisions now have to be quick.
The Seraph moves to my edge of the centre zone, now super threatening Arkadius.
Scythean kills the Battle Boar and attendant battle boar without to much trouble.
The Naga moves into the centre zone.

The Spell martyr flails in panic, accidentally claws Targs head off. Well, that wasn't part of the plan.

One of the Swamp Gobbers lives, so we continue our non scoring streak.

Minion 5: Just have to be reasonable about the clock and put some goddamn Control Points on the board, no points for 5 rounds between these factions is just weird.

Left wise, Hutchuck finally kills the Legion objective. The Gobber Chef moves onto the hill and remains contesting that rectangle. Gorax toes the zone.

Centrally, there's a Seraph threatening old man stat Arkadius, so this is bad.
Orin, the Witch Doctor and even the Swamp Gobber all go into, the relevant attacks in the back. They all miss. Umm....

Arkadius runs way off to the right and starts screaming.

I score both rectangles, so with the objective kill I get up to 3 CP.

Legion 5: .....yeah, I've lost the thread of what happened. My stuff in the centre zone gets killed and Abby scores it while the Scythean chases down Hutchuck.

Minion 6: The Gorax' run to opposite corners of their respective zones, Arkadius runs again.

Legion 6: Stuff moves around, critically the Seraph runs after Arkadius. This means the right zone doesn't get contested and I win on scenario.

Easily the best 75 point game of the weekend for me.

Biggest screw up was Guardian Beast with Arkadius placement. If he had been nearer the centre zone and triggers it, then it's super relevant on the fragile Legion Beasts. For where he was Aggravator would have been a better choice.
Otherwise it's mainly after feat placement errors, plus an inability to make situations where Crippling Grasp could be used in place of Primal. Maybe even some Primal Shocks at Abby when she wasn't camping.

Game 280 - Cancon Masters Rnd 2 - Arkadius1 (WWfF) vs Rask1 (BC)
Spread the Net

Ah, Spread Your Legs. I cast summon ambush model.
In a true tragedy of snowflakism, I run into opposing Minions. SEE THE LIGHT ENEMY GATORS, WE CAN MAKE THIS WORK.
Opposing pair is Rask and Barnabus1 with a Dracodile. A Rask off sounds awful, and while I'm not thrilled by Barnabus putting rough terrain everywhere a War Hog probably still kills the Dracodile with the power of averages?

Looks like a mis-drop on the opposing side, alas T-core hasn't dabbled with pigs. Arkadius feat works around Rasks quite well.
I lose the roll, opposing side takes the first turn we both very much desire. I choose a side that gives Arkadius an excellent wall in my centre backfield. There's water on both my flanks, though they are placed in manageable locations.
There's some fog in the middle of the board, Rask gets a hill that pokes into the centre zone and a pair of forests, one of which at least I didn't want to deal with as it would make it annoying for my solos to get to what would have been my flag.

Enemy Rask 1: The Totem Hunter Preys Arkadius. Stay away you scamp!
Vault is on the left back field, it only generates one soul so opts to trundle forward, automiss a shot, and buy down to zero. Yeah, no lie, never thought of that, god I'm a scrub.
Posse move up either flank with Fury on the left unit, Wrastlers and Totem Hunter up the centre. Admonition goes on one of the Wrastlers.
Feralgeist moves up on the far right, salivating at the prospect of just chilling on his flag.

Arkadius 1: Deploying for a potential turn 1 feat is something I'm rusty on. Fortunately the Gators weren't super quick, so I could write it off as not worth bothering with.

I Force Evolution the left most War Hog, who runs up to the left. Posse can charge him potentially, but eh, that's free Posse.
Everything else just moves around and stays at safe distances. The Razor Boars walk forward and pop their Animus'.
Arkadius has Guardian Beast up.

Traitorous Bog Trog 2: Rask chills back, feats. Throws out a cloud that gets combined with the Swamp Gobbers to block out somewhat on the left.
Everything moves forward, the Feralgeist is the only model not in feat and it goes to the enemies defensive flag.

Arkadius 2: It's a long arse turn with convoluted movements, prepare for shitty cliffnotes. Primary plan is to get the War Hogs in their, the Vault threatens Arkadius so must die. A Wrastler would be nice, otherwise plan is to score three points.

A couple Razor Boars pop their Animus, mostly they just run up to be feat targets to get heavies up the board. Suck your Feat Rask.

Arkadius hangs back, using distance and the wall to stay out of anyone's threat range.
I Primal Shock off one of those Razor Boars to kill the Fealgeist, then have Hutchuck run to that flag.
Feat moves gets the War Hogs moving forward toward Razor Boars, one of whom dies for the good of the empire to the left Forced Evo'd Primalled War Hog. Frenzying Rabo's kill a Posse and the Swamp Gobbers.

That buffed up left side WarHog then moves up, kills the Vault without to much issue, overtakes to kill a Posse.

The other War Hog with just Primal walks into the second zone, engaging the Admonitioned Wrastler who moves forward to threaten Arkadius potentially. Said 'hog eats a Posse to Overtake to the Wrastlers rear, maxes Fury to eat him and overtake to move back up again. This activation clears out the centre zone, which was entirely by accident.

Road Hogs hang back as reserves, BECAUSE THEY AREN'T ALWAYS NEEDED BARBADOS SO STOP TELLING PEOPLE TO KILL THEM FIRST.

Targ runs to my flag, Swamp Gobbers toe the centre zone, Hutchuck goes to the enemy flag. A Road Hog stays in my rectangle.

Bits and pieces run in front of Arkadius as I live in fear of an assassination from a vector I didn't see.

I get up 4-0

Rask screaming shit-shit-shit-shit-shit 3: It's super hard for the Gators to pull this out from here, they attempt to kill and contest.

The Fury'd Posse and remaining Wrastler, Raged by Rask, tries to kill the Forced Evo War Hog in their rectangle. Alas, Forced Evo works out well and the 'hog clings to life. One of those Posse moves up and contests my flag.

Some Razor Boars get killed in the middle.

Snapjaw runs to contest my rectangle, Wrongeye runs to the Rask flag.

Arkadius 3: I have to clear one of the scoring points.
Because I'm a terrible human being, I select the Posse member on my flag and charge in to try to kill it with the Gobber Chef, charging in teh back.
Alas, opportunist doesn't cut it, Posse goes down to four boxes.
I then move some beasts out of his way, Arkadius charges, lands a Stationary Needle, buys attacks to kill Said Posse and I go up 5-0.

An unfortunate case of a bad list drop, I'll never get that off T-Core again, who recognised on the spot early in the piece where the ship had started to wobble and twirl toward freedom.

Won 2, minimum personal goal for tourney complete. Now to relax and lose the rest of the way per the usual.
