Game 226 - Thexus1 (Operating Theatre) vs Goreshade2 (Dark Host)
Alright, Andem and me re-rack into a game he's actually familiar with, Banes Banes Banes Banes.
Thexus1 (Operating Theater) - 2x Wardens, Subduer, 3x Slavers, 2x Benders, Alexia with Dominator, 2x Overlords
vs
Goreshade2 (Dark Host) - 2x Bone Jack, 2x Stalker, Wraith Engine, Bane Cav (Max), 2x Bane Warriors + UA's (One Max, One Min), 2x lots of Scrapthralls
Scenario is Breakdown/Barbell again, so a centre rectangle with circles on either side. Slower than other scenarios, but plays well with Thexus whose lsit naturally wants to follow that engagement pattern anyway (A Monstrosity up the guts with units on the sides).
I......lose the die roll? Cryx take first anyway. I take a side with a central defensive wall that Thexus can hide behind and direct stuff like the wannabe general he is. My side also has a hill and obstruction on it's sides, they don't massively affect the game. There's a large forest in teh centre rectangle, groaning about Stalkers incoming. Cryx get some other terrain pieces that I don't think come into play, plus their clouds which also aren't super relevant.

Round 1: They're coming right for us!
Sure enough the Stalkers go into the centre forest, threaten me in a way which is super mean.
Bane Cav move up on the right, Warriors flock out behind. Goreshade puts Mirage on the Cav, hangs up the back with the Wraith Engine.
My own stuff runs up, the opposing list has no guns so Decel and Sac Pawn considerations aren't required. Wardens go up on each side, Subduer hangs near Thexus across from the forest, the thinking being that feat and/or arced TK's from Wardens could let the Subduer knock down both Stalkers then they become easy kills.
The Stalkers are mostly obscured by the forest, however a full advancing Risen was able to be turned into a Thrall, who was TK'ed forward and managed to charge a Stalker jsut barely in its rear. Hit and knocked out an arm and cortex, so a damn good start.
However, I'd spotted that play halfway through doing another, which led to a whoopsie moment. Thexus arced a Hex Blast on the Bane Cav, knocking off Mirage, boosted the damage and killed him just. Vengeance triggered. The better play was to get the Warden slightly further up and target the one under the Wraith Aura aiming to not damage the unit, but oh well.
And screw Stalkers. They're just the worst guys.

Cryx 2: Bane Warriors flood the left and centre zone. Goreshade and the Wraith Engine hang in the backfield. Curse of Shadows gets arced to the right warden. The Bane Cav charge forward, aided by Vengeance letting them move around somewhat, they kill a couple Green Drudges, two of them go into said Warden and splat him hard. One cavman repos forward, the others back peddle. The healthy Stalker stays in the forest, the damaged one comes forward and flails poorly at Drudges in front of Thexus.

Merc 2:Done that classic played-the-game-left-the-write-up-for-an-age. Oh well.
Simple enough planning really, I'll kill as many Warriors as possible with the intent of re-killing htem when feat/mini-feats return them, wipe out the Bane Cav to stop the most meaningul Scrap Thrall Goreshade feat trade and kill the Stalkers. Yellow Drudges ambush from the right.
Thexus hangs around his wall, feat pushes Banes into clumps were doable, pushes the stalker into the forest forward enough for the left Warden to get LOS. Said Warden geets TK'ed so as to have enough movement to get through said field of trees. Four other focus gets spent....indeedy....
Left wise, Overlords spray down a bunch of hte Bane Warriors and hang out of threat range for hte most part. The Blue Bender unit Adrenals the Pink Slaver unit.
Centrally, the Pink Drudges go in, they miss the damaged Stalker in an embarrasing display. The left Warden charges the healthy Stalker in the forest, boosts his to hit rolls and kill it with ease.
Centre/right, killing the Bane Cav time. Four remain.
The first, the most forward, gets killed by Green Drudges who also manage to CMA the damged Stalker down. THAT'S HOW IT'S DONE PINKIES.
The second/third get knocked down by the Subduer advancing and hitting with his gun under Instigate, this includes dragging one in and killing him with the free stab.
Now to kill the hardest to reach one as I have other attacks to kill the knocked down third guy. The Yellow Ambushers get Adrenalled by the Purple Benders on the right, they charge in. Two get into Darragh, the first manages the dismount (thought it would take two to do so, he then gets palced outside of Drudge melee range because .5 is garbage).
Fourth Bane cav is attacked by the third Yellow Adrenalle Drudge. It's MAT 9 versus Def 12. I miss.
........Christ in Cream Cheese Sauce, this is bad.
Desperate recovery is the right side Overlords advancing and spraying, POW 12 versus Darragh's aura on Bane Cav is insufficient, they do one box and fail to finish off Wrathe.
Ergo two cav remain, as I'm better off leaving one knocked down to cancel Vengeance and using my remaining attacks (An Alexia spawned Thrall) to charge the Arc Node in the same region, he hits (Thralls on FIRE this game. Not....literal....fire, the models are not their sturdy and in game terms they die on anything but snakes for damage), smacks it down to three boxes (I think with jsut movement remaining?).
My greater plans have failed, but at least the Stalker is dead. I will definitely lose the second Warden, a good trade as far as I'm concerned for Thexus not being jumped and killed by an oversized unnecesarily powered thgeoretically mechanical flea. Really should make someone smarter talk about avoiding plans with a single point of failure.
A single toeing Bane on the left prevents that flank from scoring.

Cryx 3: Goreshade chills out the back, feat returns all the Bane cav and half the dead Bane Warriors off the left side. Throws Curse of Shadows on the ambush Drudges.
Left zone, the Warrior UA mini-feats and returns all the dead doodz, they move forward with a charge on an Overlord and a Pink Drudge, misses the Cephalyx and kills the Grunt.
Centre wise, a couple of Banes go into the Warden, take off half his health. The Wraith Engine then charges up, kills the monstrosity and sits in the rectangle zone. machine Wraith spawning is forgotten about until well after the game. Tartarus goes behind the Battle Engine.
Bane Cav shuffle around, their one attack being enough to kill the Ambush unit leader, so a back line Drudge has leadership thrust upon him. He does alright for a Command 4 dude. The super damaged Bone Node kills the Thrall Warrior.
Cryx scores the centre zone, now up 1-0.

Merc 3: Ohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygod the Wraith Engine is corporeal. IT MUST DIE. Otherwise with the feat expected it's just kill stuff. Ideally I'd pop the second Bane Warrior Officer with an unexpended mini-feat (Actually repped by a Bane Knight), alas he is quite safe behind the forest.
Left wise, Overlords advance and do sprays on the Max Bane Warrior unit and the line blocking the Wraith Engine. They roll averagely as well as Cryx getting a fair chunk of tough results, do sufficient for the main goals of the turn including killing the UA. The Blue Benders expend a pair of grunts to Adrenal some of the Pink Drudges.
Centre wise, the Purple Benders also Adrenal some Pink Drudges. Pinkies then charge forward, with multiple Adrenal Drudges getting in and killing the Wraith Engine without to much issue. They also pop several toughed out Warriors.
Thexus stays chilling with Alexia behind the wall, uses a TK on the Subduer to get him enough distance for the next plan.
Alexia spawns a Thrall Warrior, who charges and kills Tartarus. Magic.
On the right, the Green Drudges kill some Warriors from teh min unit and a blocking Bane Cav. The Agitator Instigates. The Subduer then charges Darragh, killing him a Warrior and a Cav. Good stuff.
The ambush Drudges limp forward and get into their puny command range. The Overlords here go behind the obstruction and kill the damaged Bone Jack.
This turn was probably pleasurable enough to be illegal. Darragh has died so rarely Andmon hasn't even had the dismounted model in his bag for years. The only way to improve it would have been killing the remaining Bane Warrior UA.
I score the right zone, 1 all.

Cryx 4: Left Banes charge the Overlords, kill one. The reserve Bone jack runs to toe the centre rectangle.
Right Banes charge in, they alas forget to pop their mini-feat.
The Cav charge into teh Curse of Shadowed ambush unit, impact attacks under those circumstances do a truly awful amount of work, stymied only by an unfeasible amount of tough checks on my part.
Neither side scores.
Merc 4: Photos cease alas due to time constraints.
I'm super low on clock for this phase of the game, I doubt I could it even put together a meaningful assassination in time. Time to get my Zerg on and claim territory.
Overlords and charging Blue Benders clear out the left zone. Pink Drudges flood into the centre zone, a three man CMA misses the Bone Node, Warriors die. On the right the ambush Drudges kill the contesting Cav fella, Overlords pop the Standard bearer and UA (Though I do it in the wrong order and have to kill the toughed out Officer).
I score both side zone, now 3-1
Cryx 5: Goreshade charges into the right zone, slaughters Drudges. Few remaining Bane Warriors kill Drudges around them. Last cav man goes into the right zone. Nothing can contest the left zone.
Now 4-1 to me.

Merc 5: Down to a minute, have to clear either the centre or right zone.
The Pink Drudges CMA on the contesting Bone Jack, hit, crank the damage and pop the movement. Thexus advances, toes the centre, boosts a TK to take the light jack and move it out of the zone.
I win on scenario with 39 seconds to spare.
Awesome game. Much funs. So many doodz. So, so many. Could make an orgy pile with that many.
The Wraith Engine attacking was immediately noticed after it was done, it should have just been an annoying contest/threaten Thexus' placement deal. Unnacceptably slow once again, think I've worked out that the ideal spot is to have 15 minutes remaing at the end of round 4, with going belowing 10 being the realm of Kenny Loggins.

Game 225 - Thexus1 (Operating Theatre) vs Denny1 (Ghost Fleet)
Back at the normal domain for some more pew pew. El Andeen was gracious enough to gie me some shonky Ghost Fleet practice, so.....it's something?
Thexus1 (Operating Theater) - 2x Wardens, Subduer, 3x Slavers, 2x Benders, Alexia with Dominator, 2x Overlords
vs
Denegra1 (Ghost Fleet) - 2x Bone Jack, 2x Stalker, Wraith Engine, 3x Min revenant Crew + Rifles (Two lots of 3, one lot of 2), Pistol Wraith, Hellslinger, Black Banes, Rengrave
Match panned out as being a little non-entityous, so I'll short form this one. Scenario was Breakdown/barbell, signature terrain piece being a Cryx side favoured obstruction. Cryx won the roll and went first, I chose my side as it gave better options to aggresively seize the centre (Plus Ghost Shot interacting the way it does with Stealth/Sac Pawn muting the value of Cover/Concealment).

Round 1: Cryx run up, Black Banes up on the right, Wraith Engine Behind, Stalkers behind the centre obstruction (Ah, this old chestnut again).
I run up my own stuff, keeping Wardens near Thexus for Sac Pawn, Alexia in the mix as well for a reasonable soul collection location, not that Deathbound is friendly to her desires.

Cryx 2: Arc Node runs forward, Denny goes up behind the obstruction and pops Parasite on the right Warden, plus Scourge to knock down him and Alexia.
The various Revenant Rifles do CRA's on Alexia, they roll poorly and one gets Shield Guarded, net result is a handfull of Risen die. Black banes move up a short way, tough out a Drudge who is on fire.

Merc 2: Thexus feats to move Revenants out of the way, TK's the Warden forward and the Bone Jack around, Pink drudges get Adrenalled. Warden slams the Node over Denny, two Adrenal Drudges go into her and kill her with ease.
Well, that felt good. Not representative of what will happen in the matchup, but dammit sometimes you just have to kick something. If Denny feats then I focus on clearing the zone as much as I can, with the centre and the left being doable. Stalkers are just the worst, both in human and jack form.

Game 224 - Tas Champs Rnd3 - Gorten1 vs Skarre1
.....three rounds before top 4 cut you say?
.....Divide and Conquer 1 you say?.....
Cryx you have? Well......fuck....
Gorten1 - Earthbreaker, Siege Crawler, Ninja Pig, 2x Kayazy Eliminators, Eiryss2, Harlen Versh, Anastasia, Thor, Aiyanna and Holt
vs
Skarre1 (Dark Host) - Kraken, 2x Stalker, 2x Bane Warrior (Max) + UA, Skarlock, Bane Knights (Min?), Tartarus
I lose the roll for the first time in the day (Dammit Anastasia! Spy harder!), get given first. This proves to be quite painful shortly.
Scenario is the Pit 2, so centre circle zone with each flank have a rectangle that in turn has an aligned objective on one edge.
I have a wall formation on the left, a hill in my centre backfield and an awkward obstruction on teh right.
The left Rectangle has a big blob of water around the Cryx objective, the centre circle has a forest that favours the Cyrx side.
There's other terrain on the cryx side that I don't think comes up (Forest/trench/hill).
Not confident going in, double Huge Base into Cryx hitting power feels bad, likewise Skarre has answers to my various reasonable defence solos. The biggest issue is that forest in centre of the zone, I have poor answers for the Stalkers that can hide behind then come out, leap and kill whatever they want. Outside of that however Epic Pit is ok for Gorten's feat (Sure isn't the original version alas) and the Cryxian threat ranges are rather explicit.

Round 1: stuff runs at each other.
The Crawler fangs a shade out left, as the Kraken is something it *reeeaaallllyyyy* wants to shoot a few times. Plus that odd wall formation has good defensive potential again melee in later rounds.
Ninja Pigs go far left, intent being to kill things threatening the Crawler.
Gorten, Eliminators, Versh, Aiyanna/Holt go up the centre.
Thor, Earthrbeaker and Eiryss go for the right.
The Kraken heads basically straight towards the Crawler, fanging for the left/centre zone border. The Stalkers stay behind clouds/forests. Skarlock sacrifices a Knight for focus.
[img] [/img]
Merc 2: Simple enough, get out some pot shots, try to limit the amount of points I'll give away.
Left wise, the Pigs jiggle around. Rorsh shoots down a Bane Warrior.
The Crawler goes exactly 12 away from teh Kraken and shoots it for some nice early damage. he periscopes a Knight in the Cryx clouds because it might as well.
Centrally, Gorten shuffles toward the Crawler, ptus down a wall that stops the Kraken being able to get into the Battle Engine. Solid Ground is up. Versh touches the centre zone, outside of the charge rane of anything. The Red Eliminators form up behind him.
Right ways, Earthbreaker tries to scatter some AoE's to no avail. Eiryss shoots a Warrior, repositions back. The Green Eliminators run over here, one toes the right zone outside of anythings threat range.

Cryx 2: Mostly there isn't much for anything to do, so Banes run forward and engage things. The Kraken forgot to be allocated to, so shoots the Crawler with a single boosted damage to do about 8 points or so. Rorsh, the Crawler, Versh all get engaged. Both Stalkers wander into the forest. One Warrior does get a charge on my obejctives, leaves it on 8 boxes.
Cryx score the left zone, now 0-1.

Merc 3: I get tempted to feat this turn, the Bane Warrior engaging Versh is in charge range and nets me the stuff in the zone and the Kraken. I determine this would be awful, as one Stalker is out of range and would come in on Skarre's feat and kill me easily. The play becomes attrition for the turn, with the primary goal being to kill the Kraken.
Aiyanna and Holt go amongst the walls, she harms the Kraken, he shoots it. The Crawler then moves into little gun range, sadly under rolls on his little gun shots. A bit more desperate for attacks now (A crit Stagger would have also freed up my turn considerably), the Red Eliminators charge in with Combo strikes which also contest the left and centre zone, Gorten tries a double shot. Harlen is engaged so has to walk over and stab down a Knight (The Thrall engaging him is amazingly far out of command). The Kraken lives with movement, an arm and cortex up, so sadly the Earthbreaker instead of getting to fall back and pew pew has to advance to land the killing blows (Kraken had 6ish boxes left). He rolls low on overall shots, so only kill a few Bane Warriors around him (he was meant to shoot a Stalker down, alas I forgot to periscope with the Crawler).
Skipping over to the far left, Anastasia had ambushed and charges the Bane officer in the back. break armour and he toughs. This is going.....poorly.....
Enough Bane Warriors have died for the Officer to get the max use out of his mini feat, so I decide to sacrifice Ninja Pig to try to save the left flank. Brine kills a couple Warriors, freeing up Rorsh to shoot down the Officer and some more Grunts.
Rightwise, aside from the Earthrbeaker, Eiryss shoots a Warrior and repositions back. Green Eliminators get into the zone, killing three Bane Warriors.
I score the right zone, so 1 all.

Cryx 3: Skarre feats on 7 models (Herself, Stalkers, Warriors), casts Dark Guidance, comes in and kills the Red Eliminators (A screwed up activation order means she only snacks and eats for one box of healing).
The left Warriors stretch themselves out, kill Aiyanna, Ninja Pigs and Anastasia.
A Bane Knight guts Versh in the centre.
The Stalkers, Tartarus and right side unit come in on that side, bizarrely the Earthbreaker lives though with no arms and a grand total of three boxes. The Green Eliminators die.
Cryx score the left zone again with Skarre, now up 2v1.

Merc 4: The Attrition play is advance with Gorten, feat, then use the Crawler to bulldoze Holt free, advance, pew pew the Objective and non-skarre feated left side Banes or Objective. Earthbreaker gets repaired and Sweeps to kill most of the stuff on the right, plus boosting to hit on the Stalkers (even with penalties has about a 50% chance to knock out a system).
My concern with that is Gorten probably ends up flapping in the breeze, so 12 focus Skarre could have a good run on him. I instead misread my assassination odds and go for that, which is not the correct play.
Skarre has 3 camp and is feated on, 10 health remaining.
Gorten walks up, feats her into his melee range. Hits with all his Forge Father attacks, no crits. Boosting the damage rolls strips her of all of her focus camp, leaves her on 5 boxes. Crawler goes in, shoots with Dual Attack. Big guns put Skarre on 1 box. Desperation shots from Earthbreaker do nothing, Holt risks free strikes to try to get in and dies.
Well, that's that I guess.

Cryx 4: Skarre gets her regular focus (Skarlock ran out of regular targets previous round and had to get up the board).
She misses with her Rack, then does Swords attacks. Takes off most of Gortens health. The non-Gorten feated on Stalker walks over and pounces into melee, punches the Dwarf to 1 box. Due to the models that were in threat range being curtailed by speed reductions and no charges, that it for melee. The Skarlock moves up, targets the Stalker with a Blood Rain to land Corrosion. It scatters forward, goes max distance and just hits the Crawler.
Earthbreaker and my Objective die, not relevant at this point.

Merc 5: Gorten and Skarre agree to not talk about this and go there seperate ways. At least according to my headcannon.
Or Gorten unches Skarre to death, take your pick.
Well, that was just a silly in the end. Gorten can take on straightforward lists, doesn't makie him want to play Cryx (Though the concept of playing this into Ghost Fleet doesn't merit any consideration, as I haven't lost my mind that badly yet).
I don't make the top 4 cut alas, so that's my first of hopefully many flunkies in the opening round of Tas champs.

I don't make the top 4 cut alas, so that's my first of hopefully many flunkies in the opening round of Tas champs.
Game 223 - Tas Champs Rnd2 - Thexus1 vs Haley2
Round 2 of Tas Champs, time for some Trolls, or maybe some Circle to muddle through. Those factions are fairly prevalent, hopefully I don't get one of the other popular.....oh....damn....
Thexus1 (Operating Theater) - 2x Wardens, Subduer, 3x Slavers, 2x Benders, Alexia with Dominator, 2x Overlords
vs
Haley2 (Storm Division) - Thorn, Stormclad, Squire, Junior + Firefly, 2x Max Storm Lances, Laddermore, 3x Storm Callers, Strangeways
Those list selections appear to have been selected based on odd preconceptions by both opponents. We were looking at Thexus/Gorten vs Haley2/Caine3. I was absolutely certain that it'd be Caine with 6 odd Chargers, which blows away Gortens Colossal then he can pick off my stuff. I'll kill at least half the Chargers I think, but get ground out. Ergo I have to drop Thexus, who at least with Sac Pawn, Decel and threat range at least has a chanc. Plus Caine is squishy so some desperation assassination plays aren't out of the question. In turn, however, Caine as piloted by....himself....sorta.....was super opposed to dropping the Charger nonsense on our Scenario, which is Spread the Net. Ergo the amtchup that we got, I'm not in a position to know the validity of complaining about the Caine3 build on the scenario, it doesn't seem like the end of the world to me...
In any event, Spread the net. There's a centre circle, then both sides have a defensive flag and rectangle zone.I win the roll and pick first so as to get the board presence to make my defensive scenario elements problematic for the Swans.
Terrain wise, both sides have a hill in their backfield. There's a scattering of forests, one each on Cygnar's defensive scenario elements and another favouring my side of the centre circle zone. I have a trench in my rectangle on the right, Cygnar have a wall and obstruction in their rectangle on the top left.
Sidebar: This is in that weird point in time when the Haley2 and Storm Lance changes were announced prior to WTC but not yet official, so this game is played with Lances having electro leaps on their guns, Laddermore giving uber buffs and Haley's feat effecting every model in her control area.

Merc 1: My stuff runs up. The Subduer moves up on the left, in theory there to score the Cygnar rectangle in the future. Thexus and Wardens advance tepidly, it's a turn of allocating focus out as we are out of threat for now. A Thrall Warrior spawns and runs behind the forest in the centre zone. Overlords flanking as usual.

Cygnar 1: The Swans display a good awareness of ambushing nonsense. Sadness. This does compress them a great deal however, so that works well for me anyway.
Lance and Junior's Firefly hang out as the centre formation, the Clad and one Storm Caller go into the Swan Rectangle shielded by the wall. Thorn goes out on the right next to the Swan Flag, as does another Storm Caller to score next round.
Haley, Junior and support junk hang around behind the horsey blob.
Force Field is up, Arcane Shield goes on the right most unit.

Merc 2: My priority this turn is mucking up Thorn, I'll happily sacrifice a load of stuff to kill him and save Thexus from a load of Arcane Bolts or a TK from his Sac Pawn targets.
Ambushers appear facing the Swan flag.
Drudges run forward in the forward as does the first round Alexia Thrall. The Subduer runs back to Thexus as the right most Warden runs up to an aggresive spot to TK Thorn.
Thexus TK's the Warden, then TK's Thorn into the forest.
right most Bender unit Adrenals three of the yellow Ambush Drudges, alaso only a pair of them can get into Thorn. They do good damage, ripping off his arms and leaving 6 boxes, alas movement, cortex and arc node are all active. The Ceph leader also kills the Storm Caller and spawns a dude.
Overlords remain outflanking, one (obscured by genius thumb placement) contests the Swan rectangle.

Cygnar 2: Haley Time Bombs the aggro Warden, then shuffles along on the hill and feats, getting the bulk of my stuff. Temporal Acceleration gets put on the Firefly.
The Storm Clad ambles forward and does little, staying toeing the Swan rectangle. The Storm Caller next to him zaps down the contesting Overlord, clearing that zone.
Centre wise, the Firefly moves forward, only to get confouded by the Thrall Warrior desperately trying to get engaged and stop the shots. Eventually hangs further back than ideal and shoots. Lances do the same thing, then repoing back to teh centre. They kill about a dozen Drudges, clearing the zone and dropping the Cephalyx Leader for the Pink Slavers. The second last Lance shot hits the Time Bombed Warden, who Hyper Aggresives to toe the centre zone (I could fundamentally choose to contest the centre or score my rectangle, opted for contesting as beiing the harder point to nullify as something I missed could just run to contest my zone).
Thorn stabs down some Drudges, being immensely unphased by his supposed Crippled limbs.
Junior moves onto the hill, back in control range of his Firefly. Boosts a shot on an Ambush Drudge that misses.
Swans get their rectangle, I get my flag. Scores are 1 apiece.

Merc 3: Ah, sweet Haley feat turn.
Still have to kill Thorn. Otherwise it's chip at points.
Left Overlords move into the Swan Rectangle and spray down the Storm Caller plus damage some Ponies. The Blue Benders on this side advance and spray the same Pony line, killing a pair of them.
Backfield, Thexus TK's the forward now quite damage Warden forward, giving him teh range to arc a Hex Blast and kill Junior. Feels good. Firefly shuts down and Arcane Shield departs. The Subduer stays besides glorious leader while the back Warden toes my rectangle.
Centre wise, the Agitator advances and Instigates, buffing the damaged Warden enough to kill the pair of Lances he is engaging. Alexia spawned a Risen horde this round, they get a pair of four man CMA's on Ponies that achieve the same degree of success as the Geneva convention does to prevent torture. They otherwise gum up all the Horses.
A Thrall gets spawns on the right just outside of Haley's control area, he then charge Thorn in the back and kills him to the box. Lovely.
Various Drudge Slaver models lurch forward slowly.
I score my flag and rectangle, now 3-1 to me.

Cygnar 3: Swans conclude that things are looking grim and Rohan ain't doing squat. It's kill floaty brain man time.
There's a long planning stage, including the patented use of the Bobliness right it down message.
The Stormclad gun, Laddermore and Arlens spray clears off the Risen on one Pony unit, who then Assaults sideways to kill Risen on the other unit. Haley then wonder into the centre zone, shooting down a toughed Risen, TK'ing two of the Lances yet to activate and Temporally Accelerating one them. Those two Storm Lances, now with line of sight through the forest, charge Thexus needing to kill the Dominator with their Impact attacks.
The Temporal Accelerated guy goes first, hits and flubbs the impact damage roll, leaving the Cephalyx alive on two boxes. The other Lance comes in and misses the impact attack.
Masochism is engaged and the actual attacks get rolled out as though teh Ponies made it, they flubb those rolls to leave Thexus on five boxes or so.
Swans concede as Haley is on zero camp flapping in the breeze, though I win it on scenario without doing any activations anyway.
Mission: Submarine into the top 4 is engaged. To glorious potential placement perhaps maybe hell no unlikely. Also did a little better on time finishing with 26 minutes remaining, though would prefere to be at the half hour mark.

Game 222 - Tas Champs Rnd1 - Thexus1 vs Kallus2
Lacking both tournaments and the chance to trap someone in a car with me for a quarter of a day, I ventured forth to some other state to embarrass myself in their State Champs.
Took Thexus and Gorten, opening round is into some Camembear Legion cheese, using ADR Kallus2 and Lylth......2?1? Something pew pew.
Nominally Gorten is my slight preference for the Legion drop, however I felt his ADR would tailor better against the low model count list and Kallus' with Battle Lusted Raptors felt like they threatened my huge bases from to far out. Thus:
Thexus1 (Operating Theater) - 2x Wardens, Subduer, 3x Slavers, 2x Benders, Alexia with Dominator, 2x Overlords
vs
Kallus2 (Children of the Dragon) - Zuriel, Bolt Thrower, Sorceress on Hellion, Raptors x2 (One Max one Min), 2x Hex Hunters (Max, one with Bayal), Lannysa Ryssyl
Can't 100% vouch on the Legion list due to unfamiliarity. Definitely hesitant to recall the ADR changes, though at minimum I know Azriel was in the base list and was dropped (More on that later).
Scenario is Standoff, so flanking Circles and each side having a friendly Rectangle with an objective in it, we both took the repair iteration.
I won the die roll and picked first, as my slower base speed force wanted positioning and I felt I had plays with terrain on both sides.
The left zone has entry minorly impeded for both sides by seperate forests, then we both have hills in our rectangles, the right zone is dominated by a an awkward forest. Legion also get some backfield trenches that prove to be irrelevant, likewise to some walls on my right.
Oh, also an obstruction smack in the centre of the board. It's presence meant I always had something to hide line of sight to Thexus on, ergo my contentness, or I could go to one side and use the forests.

Merc 1: All my stuff runs up the board, no danger of bottom of one plinking so Thexy allocates all the focus out. The Monstrosities form up around the Exulon in the centre. The left Overlords go into the forest that intrudes on the left zone, while the right iteration goes extreme flankage.
I create a Thrall that runs toward the right.

Legion 1: Kallus puts up his upkeep that sets my stuff on fire if it ends its activation within 2 of his stuff in control area.
Kallus and the battlegroup stay central, with the Sorcerres Hellion going right up behind the centre obstruction.
The infantry spread out wide on both sides, with the Max Raptors and Bayal Hex unit on the right side making it slightly weighted that way, not that Legion mobility makes that set in stone.

Merc 2: Alas, Nedton had forgotten about my ambushers. Both sides are pretty good targets, however that side weighting and a chance at killing slightly more Raptors makes me pop them out on the right side.
No super exciting game plays this turn, it's just attack with what's around.
Leftwise, one of the Overlrodss moves forward in the Cephalyx forest, sprays a pair of Hex Hunters and pops one. Drudges run up around the right of the forest.
Centrally, the Warden moves up behind the obstruction as potential bait. Thexus stays in my rectangle, moves to the right to a position that Zuriel can't Overun to get line of sight to him for a charge and horrible death. Alexia pops another Thrall who runs behind the obstruction for future giggles.
Right wise, the central units advance into the bottom of the zone. Two of the Overlrods hang back as one suicide runs forward to give his command aura to the ambush Drudges, who charge into the rears of Raptors, doing gang ups. I roll reasonably well, managing to pop the four Raptors I attack and pop out some sweet boonus Drudges. Good times.
The original Thrall Warrior on this side runs up to theLegion rectangle. For the Greater good bud.

Legion 2: Out the left, the min Raptors move and shoot some distraction Benders I had far out to the left, one of them repo's to toe that flanks zone. The Hex Hunters come forward into the front Overlord and some Pink Drudges, they roll pretty poorly and kill few of them.
Centrally, the Hellion and Zuriel spray down the Thrall Warrior and a couple people, they end up toeing the friendly Legion zone.
Right wise, hald of Bayal's Hexies get into that circle zone, alongside the remaining Raptor and Lannysa they unleash on the Ambush Drudges, whittling the unit down to a handful.
Both sides score their defensive rectangles, go to 1 CP each.

Merc 3: Legion has been somewhat conservative in their contesting, a fair move considering the threat ranges involved however I now have a good path to a straight up scenario victory, scoring all four zones and popping the opposing objective to get 5 ahead.
The plan starts with some unpack to get the right positioning, the left Blue Bender unit advances, Adrenals three of the Pink Drudges to get them out of the way before their activation. In teh Rectangle zone Alexia and the Agitator move out of Thexus' way. Alexia also creates a Thrall Warrior to teh right of the obstruction as a backup piece for the opposing objective.
Thexus can now TK himself, then move through my objective to the left side of my rectangle, TK my forward Warden so he can charge past the obstruction. He feats. After models are push the left zone has three Hex Hunters, the Legion Rectangle has one plus the Objective, the right zone has four with one to the left of the forest and three to the right.
Left zone, the Overlords spray down the relevant Hex Hunters.
Legion rectangle the Pink Drudges kill the relevant Hexies with ease, the Warden charges the Legion objective and kills it with ease.
Only the right zone remains. The left Hex Hunter survives a CMA by Green Drudges, but dies to teh Thrall Warrior stabbing him in the back (had the Subduer ready for a Slam anyway).
Blob of three Hex Hunters left on teh right side of the forest. I thought the forward most Overlord would die last round, alas I thought wrong so the other two Overlords aren't in command. The one spray attack kills two Hex Hunters.
I then have the Pruple Bender unit advance and try to spray the Hext Hunter, so I have three attempts at an 8 to hit to win the game.
I fail. Oh god.
I jsut have to keep Thexus safe now by running the back Warden or the Subduer in front of him.
Due to how I lazily moved the Agitator and Alexia, they have no means of running into the spot, so I just have to hope Azrael is out of range.

Legion 3: We measure it out. Azrael is on on Thexus by about 2 mill. Satan, help! You owe me!
Kallus casts Overrun, kills the Thrall Warrior to get the move. Azrael then charges and kills Thexus with his initials.
Damn. Should have had that.
Looking at in now, I should have tramples the Subduer over the Objective/Agitator, or at least thought of it. Son of a.....
Otherwise, I was also playing considerably slower than I liked, only got three rounds but I was down to 16 minutes, well below baseline competency albeit with some complex important multi activation turns. I am content with my overally planning, that final play was in the region of 80% to win so....yeah....
In any event, funsies bracket awaits me! Onward! The games can only be easy from here (Right? right?). Cadmen would go on to get 2nd overall I believe.
Took Thexus and Gorten, opening round is into some Camembear Legion cheese, using ADR Kallus2 and Lylth......2?1? Something pew pew.

Game 221 - Gorten1 vs Lylth3 (Oracles of Annihation)
It's a fail Slam alas (Like.....cool if you can't make it, but let the other people know yeah? Basic manners for fucks sake).
Instead did a casual pickup, it's Legion so plopped down the Dwarf on the whole Fyanna-toasts-Thexus-anyway theory.
Gorten1 - Earthbreaker, Siege Crawler, Ninja Pig, 2x Kayazy Eliminators, Eiryss2, Harlen Versh, Anastasia, Thor, Aiyanna and Holt
vs
Lylth3 (Oracles of Annihilation) - 3x Angels, Carnivean, Naga, Bolt Thrower, 2x Forsaken, Sorerress on Hellion, Succubus, Shepherd
The evil dragon list is pulled from SR2016 net success, I'd expect it to be changed considerably once Wonder man starts tweaking (Where art thou units).
I lose the roll (Dammit 'stasia!), Legion pick first because that's how they roll. The table is somewhat neutral, aside from one zone having a big arse forest that must at all costs be denied to Legion beasts hiding behind it while able to threaten charging my Huge Bases. Otherwise my flag is immersed in rubble, Legion gets a central cloud to hide behind, there's water on the way to the right zone and a couple wall around the Legion side. Legion also has a pair of conjoined trench templates, they are not relevant as you'd expect.
Uh.....it's Epic Outlast. I could hit arrow and punch up to put in their, but why do that when I could expand that effort typing about not doing it?

Legion 1: The evil dudes form a block around their flag, Battle Host and Windwall up.They make sure to stay shy of my advance and pew pew range for the most part.
[img]https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjisy_IZ9htop3Dp5Mhba0Z5PpLLqcL1C9EmROWo7oD6dd8NcJhktCiVAitNgNP-zD9jvfbAfG4gNm64qN6vNMyS3PTff8-CeE8yTcvGCHWKm6h2DcdbYGmRl0i2osOQPktpNByQlpTbjPB/s1600/002+%2528800x450%2529.jpg[img]
Merc 1: As I consider how I'm going to play this out I realise this matchup is awful. The Angels out threat me for goddamn days. I conclude that I have to draw attacks, either on Gorten or damaging my Huge bases without killing them.
My list divides into two. The most scorable elements are in the centre of the board, but that territory is so far out of my control it's funny if torture is your jam.
Left side, the Crawler runs up into charges range of the left Angel (Including the stupid Seraph animus thingy). The Pigs move up on the left, Brine goes behind the forest in theoretical threat range of the centre flags. The Red Kayazy split, unit leading going into the rubble to die, the grunt running way to the back left to score the left zone in the future.
Right wise, Gorten moves up into gun range of the Angels and Lylth3, camping three after putting a wall down on the right. Earthbreaker moves up behind said wall, at least one Angel can still get into melee to try to draw in the attempted attrition. Harlen runs up behind that wall to draw out an attack.
Aiyanna and Holt hang way back behind the Earthbreaker.
Eiryss, deployed on the far right, moves up, shoots down the forward placed Shepherd, repositions to be next to a wall on the right flank. Green Kayazy run to threaten anything that comes in and kills said elf.
[img]https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiI3AKfrKf4Li6ueZmR5-5wKeaaoeLHstof9QGcbLjrHLp4atxw_CqOYir4Kj9e3j7e-ibhSV3fEILJg9o_fl4ldB9uoBNL1VVLXv7XVaOGvgD5nzmNgUZ0adrveJ6_bJMnkZ4D1dxBnff1/s1600/003+%2528800x450%2529.jpg[img]
Legion 2: I'm expecting either a middling assassination run or optimistic charges, either way opening up my path to an attrition win if Gorten doesn't die.
Neither of these happen. Legion doubles down and hangs back. Hmph.
The Sorceress flies over, fails to spray Eiryss down, repo's to engage.
The beasts and Lylth form an even......blockier block? (If you haven't worked out by now the C grade in English class was my wheel house).
Along the way the Succubus goes to the Legion flag, Lylth kills Harlen to pop a free Windwall. The suicide Kayazy gets imploded by the Carnivean spray.
[img]https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3r7neiYsBwehOma16PqKnLNg14B6Y3xxZC2bOvrcS3p3VIHXrocW-YZqEcGsQC1WQ9AZugtsAWNuHuwWjhOhIB_XbsLe24scCXP2Ww5-p4Brt5cpIjABFXhmIahkMAew9lkNQ17qvIY9U/s1600/004+%2528800x450%2529.jpg[img]
Merc 2: Alright, that didn't go as expected and I'm not super positioned to score well. The Angels have moved far enough forward that now Gorten has to fall back to avoid the pain. Wind Wall is also a pain in the arse.
Left wise, the Pigs move forward a little bit, stay hiding behind the forest. The Red Eliminator joins them. The Crawler move up, as the Succubus isn't quite in the Wind Wall. The first shot misses, hits with the scatter and puts it on one box. The second hits, crit staggering the nearby Angel and imploding the attachment. That stops that opposing scoring at least.
Right wise, Earthbreaker gets Tuned Up/Magic Weaponed, moves up, shoots at the right most Angel at the 12 inch mark, rolls max shots. I boost to hit, sadly leave it on about eight boxes, so that wasn't in the plan. Gorten goes behind the Colossal to live, which ends up in the killbox which I don't really have a choice about.
Extreme right, ambushing Anastasia charges into the Sorcerres, hoping to kill it so the Eliminators can be held back for future scoring. She needs to spike a little on the damage, scrubs it alas so the Kayazy come in and get it done. Eiryss is now freed up, she advances into the back field, shoots a Forsaken and puts it on a couple boxes.
I get a point for the left zone, Legion get two for my killbox, so 1-2 to Legion.
[img]https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBmqJVZ_iuH1SG2_dgygnNYSWsD0vtx0zuEJrFo4eonOdONvmoGHS2knetYFhxEdWkpucgqa0JcHAhhW9zvPhI6VojPbBhCfECDtxXWoCWT6btvhf7f0n__Ri8A2quhJDeO3HSGRNuF84M/s1600/005+%2528800x450%2529.jpg[img]
Legion 3: Alright, I've worked out the game plan again. Legion come in, probably kill the Earthbreaker, Gorten can then charge one of them, feat them across. Ninja Pig and Crawler eat them over the next two rounds.
It transpires that Legion don't give a flying fuck about my narrative of future events, they once more double down to hang back and pew pew me.
The Seraph moves out to the right, kills Eiryss and Anastasia with shots. Lylth toes the right zone, kills the Kayazy to pop out Windwall. The Staggered Angel and the Bolt Thrower move a bit out to the right. A Forsaken move to the Legion flag.
Legion score their friendly flag and the right zone, I get the left, scores now 2-4.
[img]https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA9fe3MJe8sBXeqVZcCZKwytIkrUAfQK_PfYvvlOyGw9WruCjH50njOmnRcgz5agIBIv_c4Gu6MTwCeZ56e3wCPzblnDdyOLlndYn6poxN6chO6c1l8P_kslvzdF1e8pebFS3iJq6IisSo/s1600/006+%2528800x450%2529.jpg[img]
Merc 3: Well, no choice now but to score some points less this implode on me.
Right wise, the Crawler moves up, I forget about Windwall which gets placed correctly this time so I end up shooting the Bolt Thrower for a few points instead. Brine gets smoked forward, he walks into the Angel and Bolt Thrower on the left, pops Animus, boosts to hit all his attacks on the Angelius and leaves it on 6 boxes. This is going.....poorly....
Earthbreaker gets Tuned Up and Magiced, advances, toes the right zone, shoots down the super damaged Angel and lightly wings the Seraph.
Brine contests the Legion flag, so I score the left zone and bring it to 3-4, still in Legion's favour.
[img]https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQV9wM8gQ4jphPRj7UwVb0qqEasBCqDxsbRHwL5O2o5g6ukbRZUzglj8Yvty21DjcHA6buOEoCoxv1Qymg1BrMNPoG5n1TkEBGr4d9QRPoif-Wk3iEKtBhIjDkWgbn3uRqMM8XlwDMbd1a/s1600/007+%2528800x450%2529.jpg[img]
Legion 4: On the left, the Angel and Bolt Thrower kill Brine. The Carnivean and other remaining Angel Charge the Earthbreaker, poor damage rolls only take out 55% or so. The Naga toes the left zone, Seraph flies back to the centre, Lylth Wind Walls. The centre Forsaken runs to the Merc flag, the other Forsaken falls short of getting to the Legion flag.
Legion score my flag and the right zone, now 3-5 to Legion.
[img]https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHRZdam2i14SKp_IEyHZ-BG9jLfJnu82X-oAzqNQ80yd2BAhxByZPZ0IA8lNBO-G9O29kWOkxLUkMbuGIKL83zHINUhWJOddlcupN6J0Ldz0hVqPFZh7YH6hrj-Ezr333W4KQk0ZMKmwyT/s1600/008+%2528800x450%2529.jpg[img]
Merc 4: Kill stuff? Attrition seems like it's going to work out.
Gorten kills the Forsaken on my flag, feats on the Carnivean/right Angel. Thor repairs the Earthbreaker, said Jack then kills the Angel and messes up the Carnivean. I then activate Aiyanna and Holt, because I've screwed this order of activations up well and truly. She harms the Carnivean, Holt aims and kills the beast like a boss. I'd hoped to score the right zone, hind that was greedy.
Left wise, the Crawler bulldozes the Naga out of the zone and stays engaging, hits it with its melee attack for some damage, shoots down the Bolt Thrower, fails to land a hit on the damaged Angelius.
Rorsh moves in, burns his focus stack making attacks on said Angel, lands a hit but only does a couple points. It loses its Spirit at least. Red Kayazy stays in hiding to score.
I get the left zone, now 4-5, still against me.
[img]https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIX6IAxJAlhQjmqsEDqn8l5e1piCuQPRxPnePOLviH_Qy_G5o1PNOUkpTQK0F3NhqmkdBtWLT79SEurfDTcxAXQ66eWYAK9WibYjV3VcwjT91giKdTl1DdiDF4UPwu-afasDGW5ZT_dbAZ/s1600/009+%2528800x450%2529.jpg[img]
Legion 5: Frenzy checks are passed. Angel and Naga go into the Crawler, take off a good half of its health. Lylth shoots Rorsh, puts him on one box. The Seraph goes just above the left zone, shoots Rorsh who passes his tough check and survives by dint of Feign Death.
The last Forsaken moves to the backfield of the right to contest in future turns.
Crawler contests the Legion flag, so no scores.
[img]https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU5fODGwawfjf3hzaeq6a1qs6YNkyfHnt8vXD8zJ37_KpjFyHbQM-pgPbV7-xx_o-aJsrPdLxHduxln-AtWddfr2W5xa5Fvm0gbmeRT7dCTQxCvDr1QoI_Fcpo0FWh7oTJ31d5_MMvd_3i/s1600/010+%2528800x450%2529.jpg[img]
Merc 5: Attrition is now excellent. There's a slight confuzzle over Dual Attacks interaction while engaged by something. I say screw it and just shoot at Lylth, the Battle Engine living last turns means attrition is inexorably on my side so it's just a matter of shoring up the scoring.
Earthbreaker gets repaired, moves across, shoots the Naga and kills it. Pew pews on Lylth then take out a good chunk of her boxes. Gorten hides behind the colossal, Holt turns the right zone (Note: Think we screwed that up, as we score this without consideration for Aiyanna not being the zone. Whoops.).
Crawler shoots Lylth (Rorsh toughing stopped Windwall proccing), leaves her on about four boxes.
Scores not at 5 apiece from the right zone (Wait, Gorten is toeing, I did it right! Woot!)
[img]https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvaSWpYSBrnLERbK-DNleTJPzV1g5twHXvnKbHLCICwVnlN8vZQ1HlOzYCfbUcRV9hNsZkLcY6wcuO63nUWC7RfvjvZJYe_vmG_AdUjpustGZT-Qe1X3S1t4HXCKxfuqUsDH0_sMlz_upC/s1600/011+%2528800x450%2529.jpg[img]
Legion 6: Beasts pass their Threshold checks.
Seraph moves up , shoots down the Red Kayazy (Dammit) and causes Rorsh to tough again.
The Angel moves across, misses The Crawler with the Armour Pierce attack, so that was....surprising. Rorsh then gets eaten, Crawler lives with about 8 boxes. Lylth camps it up and hangs on the flag. The right Forsaken contests the right zone and hides behind the wall.
No one scores, still 5 each.
[img]https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYzUwp3ASCeZNpLEE7jHR3OChV8MpFz5r2MRfHhvLYSch9UsLBldOoukU3JkFDW5z3M8nARipQ0oSQTaJqXWpMyGAYFc0e_CzQHpFbsi91VMP627ge4VbQfnzCuOMoTx2oOaLAXrhGosji/s1600/013+%2528800x450%2529.jpg[img]
Merc 6: Earthbreaker move up to contest the Legion flag (couple mill short of charging Lylth), kills the Forsaken with a Torpedo, then alongside Holt, the Crawler and a double shot from Gorten I utterly flub killing Lylth. Thor runs to my flag to hold off the inevitable.
I score my flag and the right zone, 7-5 to me.
[img]https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7klLPsG69CgJYVDAMtUG1Bs9rs4__YqN2vJYvNuqI-E5i2Ut2SFykl10X8pA7WOHaS_NaI_MffsPeweplj3dc3lPa91tr97OQCQVYkKJ3qLp5alQabq2ZMJR4Im7TmwD4y5ldCNvln-Go/s1600/012+%2528800x450%2529.jpg[img]
Legion 7: Technically there's a clock early in the turn, we ignore for the sake of playing it out. Lylth moves up and the Seraph comes around, they both shoot at Gorten camping 2. The seraph rolls one shot, so Gorten is left on 8 boxes with no focus. Re-rolling with the Seraph rolling max shots leaves the dwarf alive due to tough. Legion basically left it somewhat to long to go for it.
That was a lot more of a prolonged struggle then I ever expected. Super terrain dependent. Crawler is so sweet these days, we live in mad times.
Instead did a casual pickup, it's Legion so plopped down the Dwarf on the whole Fyanna-toasts-Thexus-anyway theory.

Woot!)
