Game 193 - Win - Gorten vs pGoreshade

Gorten - Earthbreaker, Sylyss Wishnailer, Boomhowlers (Min), Kayazy Assassins (Max) + Underboss, eEiryss, TAC, Dougal, Gorman, Thor, pAlexia + Risen

pGoreshade - Cankerworm, Seether, Desecrator, Bane Knights, Bane Thralls + UA, Darragh Wrathe, 3x Scrap Thralls, Tartarus

I win the roll, go first.

Cryx deploy.

Merc 1: Roll out! Standard upkeeps go up. Eiryss and the first Thrall skip off on the far right board edge.

Cryx 1: Move up, Goreshade casts Mage Blight, is most annoying.

Merc 2: Gorten pops a wall, Earthbreaker moves up under Thor Tune up and Dougs mini-feat, damages the Desecrater badly and puts down some rough terrain, killing some Thralls in the process. ANother Alexia Thrall is produced and runs to the right again.

Cryx 2: Tartarus curses, Banes pile in but poor attack rolls and tough blunts them heavily. Necrotech cures the Desecrator of its lost systems, but its shot does little. Mageblight happens.

Merc 3: Eiryss moves up, kills the Necrotech. Gorten, just outside of Mageblight range, feats on the Bane Knights and a couple Thralls, moving them for zero. Kayazy on the far left is a proxy for yet another Thrall, who kills a Scrap Thrall. Kayazy mini-feat, kill most of the, Boomies knocks the knights down to a unit of one. Earthbreaker rolls minimum shots, spreads some damage around. KNock down shot on Seether sadly misses.

Cryx 3: Goreshade feats, Thralls all pile in. Earthbreaker takes about a third health lost, half a dozen Merc infantry get chopped. Scrap Thrall runs toward Eiryss. Last Knight runs up to Gorten, teleport spells pops him to put the Seether on Gorten and the Desecrator stands in front of Goreshade (Seether can't activate after teleport).

Merc 4: Kayazy knock Darragh off his horse. Back Thrall Warrior gets rid of the Scrap Thrall, Eiryss strips Goreshade of Focus and does a point. Earthbreaker gets its buffs, lines up on the Desecrator, Quake gun knocks it and Goreshade down, mini-guns put Goreshade into dirt.

Back up plans: Boomies to kill Darragh, if they succeed Piper puts pathfinder on Alexia who goes into Goreshade, if the boomies fails Alexia kills the Seether and Gorten falls back.

Player Grading
Time Management: 5. Unclocked, but long turns though very little time in the tank.
Scenario Awareness: 8, only one CP but placed to threaten scenario if needed.
Spacing and Placement: 9, good use of the wall, Solid Ground and Alexia. Eiryss manouevre covered well.
Target Priority: 9, got the Bane Thrall UA earlycorrectly gauged Eiryss' shot on Necrotech when after movement she looked to be out of range of the Scrap Thrall.
Effectiveness: 10, good dice math used, back up plans available on the important actions.
Cool: 10, focused and collected ont eh game entire time.
Grade: A (51)

Games 189 - 192, 4 Round SR, 2 and 2.

Deathclock, Divide and Conquer 1
2 Wins/Losses

Macbain/Bart Pairing, both with Kayazy

Game 1 - Loss

Dylan with the evil Ret, Issyria or Rahn. Bart is useless either way.

Issyria - Hyperion, Discoball, MGSF + UA, 2x MHA, Stormfall, eEiryss, 2x Arcanist

OPening placement: Great
Not feating opening turn: Game over.

The effect of two Mage Hunter Assassin solos unter Issyria feat....

Lose the die roll, given first turn. Don't feat early on, citing that being knocked down will just allow Issyria feat + Eiryss to remove Countermeasures to easily. Galleon runs to the side.

Galleon gets messed up badly by Issyria feat and two mage hunter assassin attacks. Almost all of the Kayazy go down. Flanking solos and Alexia put up a fight, but the feat turn just did to much damage.

Evil hindsight: Needed to feat turn one to get the Kayazy into Counter Measure range. Didn't on the basis CM would be shot off by eEiryss under feat on a knocked down Kayazy, that was meaningless, MacBain can jsut Khador Arc Node next turn.

Lesser faults: Alexia and Risen spread out well, then I interperse Boomhowler himself in range for Hyperion to hit him, crit and remove Alexia from play, worse positioning ever.

Player Grading
Time Management:7, ahead on time, but ran out of stuff to fast to win out on the clock.
Scenario Awareness: 4, contested scenario where possible, but relied on lucky toughs and ultimately couldn't stop the Juggernaut.
Spacing and Placement: 3, failed to prevent the Ret feat from being crippling, even four or so Kayazy surviving would have been a huge help.
Target Priority: 4, knowing Issyria or Hyperion needs to die doesn't help when you don't have attacks to allocate there.
Effectiveness: 7, maths on what attacks were available was reasonable.
Cool: 9, no issues, only despair. Damn elves.
Grade: C (34)

Game 2 - Loss

Evan with Gorten and Durgen.

Durgen -  Earthbreaker, 2x Press Gangers, eEiryss, Gorman, Saxon, pAlexia, Hawk, Rockbottom, Thor, Reinholdt

Pulled well ahead on time and killed some decent solos early on, Galleon got blinded two turns running, could have waited it out but got greedy, Domianted with MacBain!, got Earthbreakered.

Afterthoughts: Could have won on time easily by holding Galleon back, Orin lightning bouncing into Gorman and MacBain! running to the other side of th forest to not be shot by the Earthrbeaker.

More important: Ahead on time, but otherwise falling short. Countermeasures worked well for a fair while, though all the Kayazy getting knocked down on feat turn was unfortunate. Eiryss should have been positioned across from Alexia, the best target for Primed that would need to be shot off and still in range of the Press Gangers.

Player Grading
Time Management: 9, well ahead on time, definitely possible win condition (MacBain! died, Evan had 90 seconds on the clock)
Scenario Awareness: 4, contested scenario, set up own caster death with it.
Spacing and Placement: 5, wasn't puling ahead on the piece trade but maintained par.
Target Priority: 8, early kills on Eiryss, Hawk and many Press Gangers, with set up for potential charges on Alexia early on.
Effectiveness: 6, needed some lucky rolls to complete all goals. Orin lightning was gold.
Cool: 9, no issues.
Grade:B (42)

Game 2 - Win

eVyros - GRIFFINS EVERYWHERE, Aspis, Phoenix, Some stabby dudes with vengeance, pair of Arcanists

Bart is the drop.

Griffins tried to surround, Bart feated to hold everything off, Galleon killed the Heavy early on, Nomad held off the right flank, Kayazy jammed Vyros. Attritioned ahead, Bart dominated zone, Vyros charged over, whiffed attacks, killed by Galleon.

Player Grading
Time Management: 8, no issues but without a noticeable lead.
Scenario Awareness: 8, contested well, began forcing scenario pressure at a suitable time.
Spacing and Placement: 5, deployment good, poor placement of Bart next to Holt and Underboss nearly terrible from a Phoenix shot on Bart feat turn.
Target Priority: 4, multiple target errors that could have had negative effects (Triggering Vengeance on infantry could have countered Bart feat, wasted attacks on Vyros from early Galleon shooting and Kayazy attacks which needed to wind up for charges)
Effectiveness: 7, active plans good, muscle memories moves not appropiate several times.
Cool: 9, no issues, changed mental state for end goal at an appropiate time when options became available.
Grade: B (41)

Game 4 - Win

3Goreshade or eGaspy, goes with the shade.

Bart is always the Cryx drop.

Only game I win the die roll, get first turn. Kayazy run into the zone, top of 2 Bart feats, Galleon and Eliminators kill the arcnode. Goreshade feat on Mechanithralls freezes the Kayazy and Bart, but doesn't kill all of them. Snapjaw gets sacrificed on the left to hold up the Bane Cav, the Kraken edges up, Galleon walks up to Goreshade and shoots him down to six health, Kraken takes out 2/3rds of one side of the Galleon which then walks around it to shoots Goreshade dead.

Player Grading
Time Management: 8, ahead on time.
Scenario Awareness: 7, made a potential scenario play, though not a realistic expectation for the game state to end in a scenario win.
Spacing and Placement: 7, matchups got the Arcnode early, more hesitant with Galleon then necessary but the conservative play. Kayazy spacing a lose lose on Goreshade feat turn.
Target Priority: 8, got the arc node early and the Necrosurgeons and Skarlock when possible.
Effectiveness: 6, not ideal odds on the assassination run, relying on multiple shots.
Cool: 7, length of day and game started to take its toll at the end.
Grade: B (43)

Game 187/8 - Loss/Win - eMagnus vs pVlad/pMagnus vs Reznik

Game 187

50 Point eMagnus Bad Seeds

eMagnus - 2x Nomad, Defender, Renegade, Sword Knights (Max), Sword Knights (Max) + UA + Talon, Rangers, Trencher Master Gunner, Saxon, Kell, Orin

pVlad - Conquest, Doge, WGI Deathstar, Nyss + Valachev, eEiryss,

Proxies: WGRC used for the Nyss, with a Doomreaver in place of Cylena. Dougal in place of Trencher Master Gunner.

Mercs go first, Sword Knights and Saxon ready to Ambush.

Bottom of one. Conquest crits the Bonded Nomad, takes out its Cortex and tosses it into the Renegade. Eiryss Disrupts the Defender.

Top of 2, Saxon takes out Eiryss, Renegade deviates off Vlad even with a re-roll, Jacks advance, Magnus moves up and feats. Remaining rangers take out Valachev. All the Knights jam into the Nyss. Talon pronto's forward, hits and stalls Conquest.

Bottom of 2, Aiyana Harms Magnus, Conquest crits again! Knocked down Magnus is easy prey to many shots. Conquest puts him on one, a WGI shot finishes him off.

Player Grading
Time Management: 5, untimed but suffered uncertainty on stats and the best moves multiple times.
Scenario Awareness: 7, moved to threaten scenario but was not ideally placed for it.
Spacing and Placement: 7, placement would have won me out over the long haul.
Target Priority: 4, unable to place attacks on the necessary models for proper scenario threat.
Effectiveness: 5, dice math not terrible but not stellar either.
Cool: 7, flustered by the Conquest critting ALL THE TIME.
Grade:C (35)

Thoughts several days alter:
  • Crunching the numbers, Conquest with SnP and a boost to hit roll has in the region of a 50% crit chance against Def 10. It goes against all instincts, but Magnus should have been in the open alone and jsut camped as much as possible, then run like hell the turn after
  • Trencher Master Gunner + Talon probably should be swapped with a Marshalled Nomad. Artillerist on a single shot in the game isn't great, especially against the prepared, whilst Stall is funny rather than brilliant. Talon merits further testing, Master Gunner does not but there aren't that many options in Bad Seeds

Game 188

pMagnus -2x Nomad, Renegade, eEiryss, Boomhowlers (Min), Gorman, Kell

pReznik -Reckoner, Bastions, Zealots + UA, Vassal, Reclaimer, Wracks

Reznik chased around, hurt badly by a Renegade shot, plinked by snipers until Corrosion from Gorman gets the kill!

Player Grading: N/a

Game 185/6 - Wins - Gorten vs pMakeda/Calandra

List:
Gorten - Earthbreaker, Sylyss Wishnailer, Boomhowlers (Min), Kayazy Assassins (Max) + Underboss, eEiryss, TAC, Dougal, Gorman, Thor, pAlexia + Risen

Deathclock

Game 185

Scenario: Two fronts (Two aligned zones/objectives with Fuel/Priority)

pMakeda - Molik, Bronzeback, Gladiator, Agoniser, Cetrati (Min), Marketh, Tyrant Commander + Standard, Nihilators (Max), Beast Handlers (Min)

Opening moves, Mercs went second.

Savagery is on the Cetrati, Defenders Ward is on the Nihilators. Single Thrall launched forward, Solid Ground and Strength of Granite in place.

End of 2: TAC kill three Kayazy to clear up room for the warlock charge, Gorten feated on all the heavies, Cetrati, Agoniser and a couple of the Nihilators after charging a Boomhowler for distance, did not end in zone as was the plan. Everything pushed back to the opposing side, Molik stopped by Objective. Earthbreaker shoots Molik up somewhat. Eiryss misses on the Nihilators, Kayazy mini-feat to get up the board.

End of 3, Skorne stumble back up, Makeda feats. Few models get killed.

Earthbreaker kill Molik Karn, the objective and knocks down the Bronzeback. Eiryss shoots Defenders Ward off. Kayazy and Alexia clear out the right zone, killing all the Nihilators and Marketh. A thrall charges Makeda but misses. Gorman runs to the right zone to control it. Boomies charge in to the Cetrati, dinging a few of them up. Gorten runs away from the Bronzeback.

Mercs go to 2 CP's.

Top of 4, Makeda tries to bounce up, Bronzeback takes out three quarters of the Earthbreaker. Mercs go to 3 CP.

Bottom of 4, Gorten runs to the enemy zone, Dominates to go to 5 CP.

Player Grading
Time Management: 4, losing out on time, long turns even with ready made plans.
Scenario Awareness: 10, very aware of scenario, made solid game plan on it.
Spacing and Placement: 8, initiated decent trade, had some solid matchups.
Target Priority: 8, forced attacks on relatively unimportant models, took every opportunity to attack the Krielstone.
Effectiveness: 7, made many decent attacks, made what alterations I could.
Cool:  8, wavered a few times but bounced back swiftly.
Grade: B (45)

Game 186

Close Quarters

Calandra - Dozer, Impaler, Horgle + 2 Pyrotrolls, 2x Warders, Nyss, Kriel Stone + UA

Proxies for Dozer and Impaler.

Opening moves, Mercs won the die roll and went second to avoid the forest. Standard upkeeps up. Eiryss runs up the extreme flank.

Bottom of 2. Eiryss snipes a Kriel member. Earthbreaker knocks down most of the Warders and several beasts. Kayazy charge into wall of Warders, Risen and Thrall gum up some Nyss. Gorten charges a Kayazy, feats. Gets huge chunk of the trolls, but falls literally 1mm short of Calandra, which would have killboxed her. Sadface.

Bottom of 3. Trolls trundle back, Kayazy jam in, Gorten runs to the friendly flag.

Turn 4: Warders get up into the mix, Earthbreaker knocking down a few on the way and killing all but one member of the Kriel unit. Gorten sits on Flag, gets up to 3 CP's.

Bottom of 5. Warders charge Gorten, ding him down to six health including an earlier hit from Dozer. Earthbreaker moves around annoying Warder, shoots Calandra who has two transfers to death after the opening Quake shot hits.

End Clocks, three minute clock is mine.

Player Grading
Time Management: 4, time well below opponent, at serious risk of being timed out.
Scenario Awareness: 9, maximum scenario pressure planned out, very close to extremely early success.
Spacing and Placement:7, reasonable matchups made.
Target Priority: 10, chocked opponent with weak models, attacked the stone as soon as the possibility opened up.
Effectiveness: 9, used good dice math on plans, not drawn to meaningless targets.
Cool: 6, calm and collected but several mental errors particularly with Solid Ground.
Grade: B (45)

Game 181 to 184 - 2 Wins/Losses - MacBain!/Bart - Superseries qualifier

50 Point four game SR
Deathclock
No Divide and Conquer

MacBain! - Galleon, Silly Wishnailer, Gorman wondercloak, Kayazy Assassins + UA, Boomhowlers (Min), Alexia, Orin, Saxon, Kell, Ragman, eEiryss

Bart - Galleon, Nomad, Kayazy Assassains (Max) + UA, Eliminators, Wrongeye + Snapjaw/Bull Snapper, Dougal MacNaile, Aiyanna + Holt

Game 1 - Loss

Two Fronts (2x aligned zones/objectives with Fuel and Priority rules.

Was either Terminus or eSkarre.

Terminus - 2x Helldivers, Combine, Skarlock, 3x Bane Thralls, 1x Bile Thralls (Min), Darragh Wrathe, Madelyn, Saxon

Opening moves, first barrage doesn't achieve much alas. Lost die roll, given second, in hind sight probably picked the wrong side, gave Cryx a trench and Saxon stops the forest being an issue.

The middle game melee, I feat and use Kayazy to kill various support models, things are going well.

My turn of mistakes.
  • Eliminators should have killed Madelyn
  • Galleon moved up to get Tartarus, going into Terminus' threat range
  • Tartarus toughed, Bart went up to spray him to death, putting Bart in Terminus' threat range

Tartarus charges up after Darragh/Madelyn moves, kills Bart.

Overall matchup works for me, needed to be more wary of Terminus' threat range.

Final clocks: both around half hour to go.

Player Grading
Time Management: 7, no issues but wasn't pulling ahead.
Scenario Awareness: 6, contested the scenario but didn't position to threaten for it.
Spacing and Placement: 6, many good target selections, but blindsided by Tartarus when the threat extenders would have been a better target.
Target Priority: 6, misplaced several attacks.
Effectiveness: 8, reasonable math used/.
Cool: 9, no issues.
Grade: B (42)

Game 2

Process of Elimination

It's Durgen or Magnus, both with Press Gangers and attendant colossals.

Ended up MacBain! vs Durgen.

Credible matchup for me, Bart doesn't out-shoot Durgen and MacBain!'s Countermeasures is good in either matchup.

Durgen (Highborn) - Earthbreaker, Thor, Dougal, 2x Press Ganger, eEiryss, Tinker, Gorman, Piper, Rockbottom, TAC, Reinholdt

I lost the die roll, as per the usual it would seem. Not pictured is my Kell, Eiryss and Saxon the extreme left, Collosals definitely weight the game to my left side of the centre.

Countermeasures/Failsafe go up, as does the Feat. If I can just get Countermeasures up the board I should be in a good position.

Mid game (longer than usual): Both colossal's are cagey about getting in each others threat range, the left Primed Press Gangers ding up the Galleon but get devastated by Lightning from Orin. The Right zone is a melee of the Gangers slowly being by the Boomhowlers and Risen, with a Thrall popping into Hawks back and cutting her down.

End Game: Getting desperate, Gorman throws an out of Range Black Oil, it scatters far enough to get the EarthBreaker. Eiryss toes the forest, causing a Quick Work Holt to miss and killing him, Aiyanna then fails her command check. Each side takes one Objective prior to the Black Oil.

Durgen moves up, takes a bunch of shots. Desperation plays clear the right zone for me, I go to 2 CP in Durgens turn.

My last moves are Gorman Black Oiling Durgen, Eiryss shooting his camp off, Galleon running into Melee and MacBain Jackhammering Durgen to death.

I go to 5 CP on the end game result as the Earthbreaker shuts down.

I had 6 minutes remaining to Chris' 4. Long, epic game.

Player Grading
Time Management: 8, had some long turns, but recovered to have a slight time advantage in the end.
Scenario Awareness: 8, applied Scenario pressure when it became a possible, could have pulled ahead on it depending on game state.
Spacing and Placement: 9, extreme care taken from both sides with the colossals, decent play with the outflanking Solo's and Alexia positions to begin threatening scenario.
Target Priority: 8, applied attacks to multiple key solo's knew to not get to focused on particular pieces in a detrimental fashion.
Effectiveness: 7, decent attack math, had to rely on a few key rolls to come ahead.
Cool: 8, stuck in the tank a few times but managed to get out of it.
Grade: A (48)

Game 3

Outflank

The return of Eds Khador!

uButcher and eVlad.

I dropped Bart. Ed dropped Vlad.

Potential gaff on my part, MacBain! was meant to be used for any pairing involving uButcher. We played that match before the tourney and the list match up was definitely in my favour, that went out my head and I pulled out Bart, impacted by a very long round 2 game. Worked out for me, had Butcher been the drop though it probably would have been dire straights.

eVlad - Conquest, Doge, BD IFP + UA, IFP Kovnik, Widowmakers, Outriders, 2x Eliminators

I lost the die roll, given first turn so that the Galleon doesn't have the hill.

Merc opening position, one pair of Eliminators gets killed on the left by the Kayazy, Bart feats. Vlad is placed such that the Galleon can get line of sight, he gets shot for half his health.

Mid game, Galleon shoots up the Conquest fairly badly, Kayazy get mauled somewhat (Iron Zeal stops Barts Feat Knockdown effect), other Eliminators wonders into the feat range and while knock downed get killed by the Nomad, most of the Widows die in a similar fashion to Dougal.

End Game, Conquest runs in, Vlad can't quite make it to the forest, Galleon gets dinged but is fine. It the moves over and kills Vlad.

I had 26 minutes left, Ed had 19.

Player Grading
Time Management: 8, got ahead but not importantly so.
Scenario Awareness: 6, placed to contest but not positioned to win by such in a meaningful manner.
Spacing and Placement: 6, didn't win on the matchups, Galleon was going well but rest of the list was having difficulties, Outriders were going to be an issue.
Target Priority: 8, killed the Warcaster, but without that opening placement error would have focused on Conquest with the Galleon to good effect I feel.
Effectiveness: 8, decent dice math used.
Cool: 10, no issues.
Grade: A (46)

Game 4

Close Quarters, Horse!

eMorv of Krueg. It was always going to be Krueg. Bart is the drop and the right one.

Joined the Mike Purvyear club.

LOCKS DON'T STOP PLACEMENT EFFECTS. BART SHOULD HIDE BEHIND GALLEON.

Player Grading: N/a, stupid mistakes made. Fear of being Killboxed put Bart to far ahead. SHould have kept Bart behind with the other Heavies around him.
