Game 241 - B - Dr Arkadius vs uButcher

No Clocks

Close Quarters

Arkadius Ark (Nature of the Beast Tier 4) - 2x Road Hogs, 2x War Hogs, 2x Gun Boars, 2x Gorax, 6x RaBo's, Targ, Bone Grinders (Min)

uButcher - Berserker, War Doge,Saxon, Widowmakers, Boomhowlers, Drakhun w/dismount, eAlexia, 2x Ogrun Bokor, Madelyn, BD IFP + UA, eEiryss

Bokor Clients: One for the War Doge, one for Butcher

Farrow Deploy: I lose the die roll, get given first turn

Khador deploy

Farrow 1: Everything moves up into Feat positions, Forced Evo/Aggravator go up.

Khador 1: Silence of Death goes on the Pikeman, Boomies and Widowmakers kill a Rabo, the other Hyper Aggressives a bit. Eiryss shoots for Forced Evo, Gorax shield guards. BD IFP pop Iron Zeal.

Farrow 2: Spells upkept. Left flank RaBos position to see Saxon for the feat charges. middle RaBo moves to engage the Drakhun. Right RaBo's charge PIkemen and fail to set up the Eiryss kill. Gorax that blocked Eiryss falls back. Grinders boost Arkadius' spell range.

Arkadius feats, one RaBo kills Saxon, the right flanking ones kill two IFP. Road Hogs feat charge forward, Warhogs/Gun Boars/Gorax' aren't cool enough for the feat. Arkadius walks to 10" away from an Argus, boosts and hits with a Crippling Grasp. One Gun Boar walks up, kills Eiryss with blast damage. War Hog and other Gun Boar push Arkadius back to Cover.

Left Road Assaults a Widowmaker, killing her and doing five points to Butcher, but failing to kill Madelyn. Right Road Hog Assault one of the Bokors, setting him on fire, killing Madelyn and doing another five points to Butcher.

Forgot to frenzy centre RaBo with the feat.

Khador 2: Both fires go out. SoD upkept. Widowmakers kill a RaBo. Boomies jam around the left War Hog. Drakhun ride by attacks, killing the engaging Rabo and moving up to engage one War Hog. IFP charge in, taking out one Gun Boars spirit and damaging a War Hog/Road Hog. Butcher then murders the right Road Hog. Bokors move up.

Gorman misses with a Blind Grenade. Alexia moves up, pops two Thralls, one charge in and takes out he Mind of the right Road Hog, which can't be healed thanks to SoD.

Farrow 3: Road Hog Frenzies, knocks down a Boomie. CG upkept, Aggravator drops. Gun Boar without Spirit nudges over and kills a BD IFP. Targ Ancillaries the back War Hog to kill the right Thrall. Left Gun Boar nudges up kills left thrall. Left War Hog Dismounts the Drakhun and kill one of the Bokors.

Left Gorax pushes Arkadius forward to get the Road Hog in control. Grinders put Sprint on the right Gorax, who puts Primal on the right War Hog, walks over to an IFP, kills him and walks back. Primaled Warhog (Missing Mind and under Silence of Death) then charges Gorman, boosts two attacks to hit and pulps him, fails to hit the other Bokor.

Arkadius casts Pscho Surgery to heal a bunch of the beasts, then walks over to the right, arks a blast through the left War Hog onto the dismounted Drakhun, puts him down to one hit point. Left Rabo engages the Widowmakers, right RaBo's kill some IFP.

Farrow go to 1 CP.

Khador 3: SoD upkept, one focus to Berserker. Boomies bounce off the Road Hog and left most RaBo, failing to even take out an aspect. Butcher kills the Primal War Hog, heals himself for four, feats, Energises back. Drakhun and IFP kill off the other War Hog. Berserker charges forward with one focus, kills the Gun Boar sitting on the friendly flag. eAlexia moves up, blasts Targ down to one box.

Berserker doesn't explode, because he is mean.

Farrow 4: Rightmost RaBo frenzies, misses his RaBo buddy! CG upkept. Non-frenzied RaBo moves over and engages the War Doge. Left RaBo flails. Road Hog maxes fury to kill four Boomies. Targ ancillaries the Gun Boar, which kills the Drakhun.

Gun Boar moves in, kills the remaining Bokor and an IFP. Gorax moves up, pushes Arkadius, Primals his Gorax bro. Grinders Arcane bolt an IFP. Arkadius puts Forced Evo on the Bro Gorax, Maltreats the Road Hog, walks over to the friendly flag. Bro Gorax charges the Berserker and buys attacks until he dirts him.

Khador 4: SoD drops, Butcher moves up to threaten Arkadius' life (11 inch threat with CG). Boomies finally kill the left RaBo, take out the Spirit on the Road Hog. Last few IFP charge in, one misses Arkadius, the other pings the Gun Boar for a bit. Alexia attacks the Gun Boar ineffectually.

Farrow 5: Bro Gorax frenzies and kills an IFP. FE drops. Grinders put Massacre on the other Gorax, who charges and kills Alexia. RaBo kills the last IFP with a pike.

Run out of play time, Khador concedes. Had turn continued, Arkadius would have moved out of Butcher kill range, pschosurgery the Road Hog and blasted something. Road Hog would turn to get Buthcer potentially in his LoS and killed Greygore. Gun Boar would kill the War Doge.

From their, Butcher is functionally alone. He could kill one Gorax and Gun Boar or the Road Hog, but that leaves him open to being killed by a Gorax.

Player Grading
Time Management: 5, not a quick playthrough. List liable to severe timing issue.
Scenario Awareness: 7, not an ideal scenario, but got the points when available and had a long term threat available.
Spacing and Placement: 8, Arkadius pushes and keeping out of the range of death done well.
Target Priority: 8, Eiryss and Madelyn both needed to die as early as possible.
Effectiveness:  6, some backups available, but relied on average dice rolls too much.
Cool: 8, no issues.

Game 239/40 - B/C - Karchev vs pVayl/Cassius

Sunday Slam

Deathclock
SR 2014

Karchev - Black Ivan, Malakov + Spriggan/Juggernaught, Tinker, pAlexia, 2x Press Gangers, Hawk, Gorman

Game 1

Process of Elimination

pVayl - Typhon, Ravagore, Scythean, Seraph, Shredder, 2x Forsaken, Raptors (Max), Spell Martyr

Khador Deploy, fairly standard by now, got it down to a couple of minutes at most.

Legion Deploy, Scytheanon the left, Ravagore between Typhon and the Seraph.

Khador 1: Extremely standard. Going first  versus no AD means no point in trying a pot shot.

Legion 1: Raptors shoot down some Pressgangers, Ravagore throws out a Seether. Typhon gets Teneacity and Chiller, Leash goes on the Scythean.

Khador 2: Eiryss moves up, misses Typhon. Press Gangers jam up, triggering Dark Sentinel, which is used to move the Scythean toward the left zone and forward. Red Press Gangers jam up but leave a pathway. Karchev runs across tot eh left zone, Spriggan goes in and kills the Scythean with ease. Ivan walks up and shoots down one of the Forsaken. Alexia makes a Thrall that misses Typhon. Everything else runs into various positions.

The original plan was to swing the Spriggan in and kill Typhon, then shield Karchev with Ivan/Jugger. Eiryss missing (Not stripping off Tenacity) and the Dark Sentinel move made a better opportunity mid turn for the plan I went with. The Blue Press Gangers were split in half to provide Sucker! targets for Malakov, but that went off the cards when the Jacks went elsewhere.

Legion 2:Raptors jam into the left zone. Vayl feats, the Beasts spend their time clearing out the Pressgangers in the right zone, after a Forsaken blasts a few of them. One Pressganger survives everything and stays in the right zone. Feat moves trigger on all Legion models, the Seraph tries but fails to engage Eiryss, the other Beasts fall back.

Legion go to 1 CP.

Khador 3: Spells upkept, Jugger gets three focus, Ivan gets two. The Red Pressgangers try and fail to do anything to the Raptors. The Spriggan kills two Raptors. Malakov tries to kill the southern Raptor, misses his rear charge attack. Alexia has to go in, misses opening boosted attack, burns three Risen to kill the damn Raptor.Karchev runs to the right zone, swings the Jugger and Ivan around. Jugger walks up, engaging both Typhon and the Ravagore. Typhon Dark Sentinels to walk away, gets Crit Stationary from the Juggers freestrike. Jugger flattens Typhon and hurts the Ravagore. Ivan charges in, finishes off the Ravagore.

Legion 3: Vayl slip streams the Seraph forward, spells at Karchev, crit Stationary on him. Seraph charges, does about fifteen points.

Legion Concedes.

Had the game continued, Karchev shakes, Unearthly Rages, kills the Seraph. If he fails then Press Gangers and Ivan finish it, otherwise Ivan bulldozes the Shredder/Martyr out and pops a shot. Red Pressgangers clear left zone, Spriggan engages last Raptor and belts objective. Malakov/Risen Thrall finishes objective off if needed. Jugger engages Vayl. Khador would go to four CP, Vayl lacks the means to stop the scenario win/kill Karchev.

Left is legion, right is Khador.

Player Grading
Time Management: 8, well ahead on time, relatively quick play even with a mid-turn change of plans.
Scenario Awareness: 6, had a plan, but it revolved around not losing on it and attritioning down.
Spacing and Placement: 6, Gorman should have stayed near Malakov as a Sucker! target. Other misplacements done, but worthwhile as resulted from plan changes.
Target Priority: 8, got the Beasts and support pieces when possible.
Effectiveness: 7, reasonable dice math.
Cool: 7, multiple misunderstandings of Vayls Dark Sentinel ability, but recovered.
Grade: B (42)

Game 2

Into the Breach

Cassius + Wurmwood - Ghetorix, Stalker, Gorax, Nyss Hunters, Bloodtrackers + Nualla, 2x Gallows Groves, Bone Grinders, Stones + UA, Stones

Khador Deploy (No Pic): Wins the die roll, I go first. Because it's Circle, and that's just what you do.

Circle Deploy.

Khador 1: Run ups.

Cirle 1: Things run up, Cassius feats.

Khador 2: Karchev runs up, slings the Spriggan into a Stone.

Circle 2: Ghetorix teleports over, gets Hellmouthed to drag Karchev in, spikes multiple damage rolls and dirts him.

Placement issues of death. I should have waited out Cassius' feat, running Karchev further to the right or held back near my objective with the Jacks moving in front of him, then next turn make a play to kill the Heavies. Even with the Spriggan sacrifice, could have made it work by placing the Jugger next to Karchev. Oh well.

With the longer term play, likely Circle springs to 3 CP, the Jacks then have to be in the zone to ensure I don't lose. Karchev has to be placed on the right edge, should he go to start Dominating the Flag I need to be in a position to kill him.

Khador clock left, Circle right. The clock didn't swap over for the opening portion of Circle turn 2.

Player Grading
Time Management: 7, doing all right.
Scenario Awareness: 6, had a plan, didn't get much chance to play the long haul.
Spacing and Placement:  2, got Caster killed at bottom of 2....
Target Priority:  7, knew what to go for, just didn't get much chance to do so.
Effectiveness:  7
Cool: 7
Grade: C (36)

Game 238 - B - Karchev vs eNemo

No Clocks

Destruction

Karchev - Black Ivan, Malakov + Spriggan/Juggernaught, Tinker, pAlexia, 2x Press Gangers, Hawk, Gorman

eNemo - Hammersmith, Lancer, Charger, Hunter, Centurion, Squire, Journeyman + Squire, Aiyanna + Holt, 2x Storm Callers, Black 13th

Khador end up with first turn.

Cygnar Deploy. Nemo proxied by Gorman. Junior and his Hunter is on the right flank.

Khador 1: Everything moves up. Alexia creates a Thrall then shelters behind the Jacks, which Gorman clouds.

Ideal Alexia placement is tricky. On these situations when going first against a list with capable, guns, probably worth feeding each Jack a focus so they can run after the Tow and make a Jack Bunker a bit further up the board. Creating a Thrall probably didn't have much value.

Cygnar 1: Stuff moves up, a few Pirates get shot. They are all out of collection range.

Khador 2:  Spells upkept. Blue Pirates charge in to the Hunter/Lancer. They mostly miss. Red Pressgangers jam around. Spriggan walks as far as it can, puts a flare on Holt. Ivan moves up a bit, shoots Holt (Out of Quick Work range), killing him and putting Aiyanna on one box. Eirys walks up a bit, shoots the Journeymans Hunter, disrupting him. Juggernaught walks over a bit. Gorman clouds, Alexia moves into a bunker of Risen.

Should have jammed the Hunter more with the Blue squad, as well as thrown the Press Gangers further up in general, whiel leaving a Spriggan lane. Spriggan could have charged the Lancer and beat the hell out of it (7's to hit, Powerful charge cancels Set Defence, Dice + 3 for the Spear attacks). Karchev. Eiryss disrupting the Junior's Jack opens up the Spriggan/Ivan to take out the Stormcallers instead and get rid of that damned Disruption.

Cygnar 2: Aiyanna kisses the Spriggan. Nemo Energizes, puts Forcefield on himself, Positive Charge on the Charger, then feats and pulls some focus back on himself, puts Failsafe on the Centurion. He tries to clear a charge for the Centurion on the Spriggan but doesn't succeed. Centurion charges Ivan, triggers Dodge but Ivan can't et away. He takes a big hit but all systems remain. Hammersmith wrecks a few Press Gangers, beatbacking his way into the zone. Stormcallers kill the Thrall and some Press Gangers, Black 13th do a bunch of shots including killing the Tinker.

Khador 3: I drop Tow, Redline upkept. Jugger and Ivan get three focus each. Jugger charges the Hunter, boosts the attack, Crits Stationary and easily kills it. Blue Press Gangers bounce off the Lancer and kill a Stormcaller. Red Pressgangers attack the Lancer and engage Aiyanna, bagman in the back does nothing, Lass on the front rolls box cars and removes the shield. Gorman blind the Hammersmith. Karchev walks up, sprays down a Risen and knocks down the Centurion, then casts Unearthly Rage. The Spriggan charges Junior and pastes him. Eiryss walks up and shoots the Centurion, disrupting and taking off Failsafe. Ivan moves up, bulldozes the Centurion back, then goes in and rolls low damage, his final attack gets rid of the Shield. Alexia moves up, Malakov hides behind the Risen, Hawk runs and engages the Charger.

Cygnar 3: Nemo loads the Charger, kills Hawk, Forcefields himself then steps back. Aiyanna runs away from the Press Ganger. Hammersmith moves up and engages Ivan, Centurion stands up and does a swing. Lancer flails around. Stormcaller disrupts the Jugger. Charger moves up and misses Eiryss. Black 13th take out Ivans Cortex and Gorman.

Khador 4: No allocations from Khador for the rest of the game. Jugger engages one the Black 13th. Spriggan walks over to the Squire and misses both attacks. Eiryss run to the left retreat style, Malakov runs to the right behind the forest. Karchev kills the Hammersmith. Alexia kills the Centurion and has Risen jam around the Charger. Ivan walks onto the wreck marker, shoots at the Black 13th and does nothing. Press Ganger squads kill Aiyanna and remove the Lancers arms.

Cygnar 4: Nemo moves up, kills Alexia. Stormcaller disrupts Ivan. Charger kills the Risen on it. Lancer does nothing, Black 13th shoots at things engaging them.

Khador 5: Spriggan walks over to Nemo, hits him and puts him down to two health. Ivna moves out of the way, shoots the Objective for a point. Risen get out of the way. Karchev gets Movement from Arkantrik,  charges Nemo and splats him.

Player Grading
Time Management: 7, played appropriately, had a plan each turn.
Scenario Awareness: 5, had a scenario plan but didn't push it hard enough, insufficient jamming.
Spacing and Placement: 7, things were mostly where they needed to be, particular happiness with Ivan being out of Quick Work range.
Target Priority: 6, should have prioritised the Stormcallers a bit more.
Effectiveness: 8, good dice math for the most part, multiple backup plans around.
Cool: 8, the Doyle returns with fun :-)

Game 236/7 - C/B - Karchev vs Kallus/eMakeda

Sunday Slam!
Deathclock

Karchev - Black Ivan, Malakov + Spriggan/Juggernaught, Tinker, pAlexia, 2x Press Gangers, Hawk, Gorman

Game 1

Balance of Power

Moops' Kallus - Ravagore, Scythean, 2x Warspear + UA, Pot + Max Ladies, Legionairres (Max) + Farilor, Spell Martyr, Succubus, Shepherd

Legion pick first. Shepherd is behind the Ravagore.

Khador deploy, pick the side without water, other minimal terrain affects. I put Karchev on the lrft, thinking that overall it would be better to have him opposite Kallus. Eiryss is on the extreme left.

Something this game made me realise: When going second, it is hugely important to not have ALexia and the Battlegroup on the wrong sides. The opening Tow/Move combo takes up enough board space that swapping places with Alexia and her mob of Risen is difficult.

Legion 1: Everything moves up, Ignite goes on the left most unit of Warspears. Farilor is up the front of the Legionnaire unit.

Khador 1: Eiryss moves up, removes Ignite. Pressgangers jam up with a few fromt he left squad holding back for Sucker!, Alexia moves up behind a short line of Risen. Ivan moves up and kills Farilor and a Legionairre.

This was a waste of Eiryss. I should have run her forward on the board edge, moving the clock. Ignite doesn't matter against Press Gangers, Eiryss can then remove it if its still around before Karchev gets stuck in. Killing Farilor was still the right call I feel (The other two options were the Spell Martyr and Kallus).

Legion 2: Kallus feats, all the infantry get stuck in. Pot pops out a Shredder. A Legionnaire kills  Risen, giving the Ravagore a bead on Alexia, which misses and sets Ivan, Karchev and Hawk on fire. Hawk toughs. The Pressganger units are decimated, Eiryss is engaged.

Khador 2: I go for a Tow assassination, but screw up placement so the SPray is off target (Had to target the Shredder so I didn't hit the Spriggan.). Risen jam, Gorman blinds a model. Ivan dings the pot for a little damage. The Spriggan kills the Ravagore.

I thought the assassination was the best call at about a 25% (Boosted 12 for the knockdown, then a Jugger/Ivan shot to kill a blocking Warspear). The other mistake was not throwing Gorman bombs before activating the Risen.

The better long play is to remove the Heavies. Gorman has to move up, throw a Blind bomb at one of the legionary blobs, probably the nearest mob of three to reduce any free strikes they might get on the Jacks. Karchev walks up, feats, Unearthly Rages. The Jugger, with a focus from Malakov, moves up and kills the Shrededer (Boosted hit from Ice Axe kills with a six on the damage roll). Ivan then charges and kill the Ravagore, Bumping the Warspear and Martyr out of the way. Spriggan then charges and kill the Scythean, bumping the same Warspear out of the way. Risen/Alexia/Pressgangers jam as much as possible, Eiryss moves in position to block the War Spear on her.
Hopefully Blind, jamming and Jack wall shield Karchev....

Legion 3: Some stuff gets moved out of the way, Scythean with Ignite charges Karchev, free strike from Redlined Spriggan does little.

End Clocks:
Khador - 35 minutes
Legion - 25 minutes

Player Grading
Time Management: 7, I'd pulled her time wise. Opening turn still somewhat slow, but alas.
Scenario Awareness: 6, had a plan for the scenario but wasn't a strong enough play to go through with.
Spacing and Placement: 2, Karchev spray, Eiryss and the left Blue Pressgangers were all badly done.
Target Priority: 6, Farilor, shot on  he pot and the Ravagore were decent targes.
Effectiveness: 5, matchups went as well as they could, infantry way outclassed. Betting on a boosted 12 was a bad mistake.
Cool: 7, tilted a little by the mass infantry churn and spray mistake but recovered.
Grade:C (29)

Game 2!

Two Fronts

Southie's eMakeda rematch - Molik, Gladiator, Bronzeback, Krea, Shaman, Incindarii (Max), Tycom, Willbreaker, Beast Handlers (Max)

Khador 1: Khador won the die roll, picked first to get some moves up the table without everything being in Molik Range. Ivan attempts a shot that goes nowhere.

I feel going first against Molik yo-yo is the right call without specific terrain assistance. Opening placements have Gorman and Alexia to far forward, both should have had a pair of Risen in front of them.

Skorne 1: Incindarii shoot up a bunch of Pressgangers. Molik whirls up, gets to Gorman. Alexia also gets set on fire.

Khador 2: A Risen is placed to determine charge distance. Molik is in range of Alexia. Pressgangers jam. Eiryss kills a Beast Handler. Alexia charges Molik, burns all the Risen to leave him still going. Karchev moves into the friendly zone, out of range of the Priority Objective. The Spriggan charges in and finished him with the opening attack. Ivan kills the Willbreaker, but Makeda burns a Fury to keep him alive. Hawk moves up.

The Jugger leaving my zone was terrible. I failed to see the potential for the Tycomn to go around the obstacle and control my zone. Could also have placed the left most Press Ganger slightly forward.

Alexia should have been the first on Molik, I should have sent the Spriggan with her as a backup instead (or better yet, a few Risen then a Thrall Warrior to make attacks, Alexia moves into the right zone).

Skorne 2: Makeda feats, Alexia prevents her from casting anything. Tycom uses Press Forward on his own unit, the standard moves around the Obstacle, toes the zone and punches the contesting Press Ganger to death. Incindarii don't get far, but mulch Press Gangers. Willbreaker runs into the friendly zone. Gladiator puts Rush on the Bronzeback. Shaman goes nuts stabbing Press Gangers. Bronzeback gets Enraged, then charges the Spriggan. He maxes Fury to kill it and Beatback into the zone.

Skorne Control my friendly zone to go to 1 CP.

Khador 3: Ivan gets two focus. Right Press Gangers charge the Shaman and engage the Bronzeback, they ding him a little. Eiryss runs back to a position to contest the right zone next turn. The left Lass seduces the Willbreaker, causing him to move to stand next to the objective. Karchev feats, mvoes up, swings the Juggernaught in. Boosted spray on the standard bearer misses. Tragedy. Malakov moves up and puts Redline on the Juggernaught, who then charges and kills the damn Tycom banner bearer. Ivan charges the objective, puts it on two health. Hawk charges and kills the Objective. Tinke waddles forward.

Skorne on 1 CP
Khador go to 2 CP, Dominating friendly zone and killing the objective.

Should have put another focus on Ivan. Had he killed the Objective he would have swung at the Willbreaker, had Hawk not been needed as a backup she also could have killed the Willbreaker. The Juggernaught charge was also a backup plan that was unfortunate but necessary.

Though this turn ultimately went badly, I feel it is the best I have ever done in having a backup plan for the things I wanted to get done.

Skorne 3: Maxed out Bronzeback pass frenzy check (needed a 3). Tyrant charges in, takes out the right arm on the Juggernaught. Incindarii wipe out the left Press Gangers. Gladiator charges Ivan, he loses his Right arm then Dodges away. Krea uses Paralytic Aura and moves up. Hawk gets missed by lots of attacks. WillBreaker Ancillary attacks the Gladiator, which finally kills Hawk. Enemy zone gets cleared out by Shaman/Beast Handlers who also strip fury from the Bronzeback. Bronzeback gets Rush from Makeda, then charges and kills the Objective.

Skorne go to 3 CP for Dominating friendly zone and killing the objective.
Khador on 2 CP.

Khador 4: Juggernaught fails to hit the Tyrant. Malakov fails to hit the Tyrant. Karchev moves up, Tow swings Ivan around, Unearthly Rages Ivan around. Spray kills the WillBreaker, fails to hit anything else. Tinker fails repair roll on Ivan. Ivan goes into the Bronzeback anyway, fails to do much. Eiryss runs to contest the enemy zone.

Skorne on 3 CP.
Khador on 2 CP.

Skorne 4: Gladiator puts Karchev to 3 health, Makeda kills Eiryss.

Skorne go to 4 CP.
Khador on 2 CP.

Khador 5: Karchev does to a freestrike, but was going to be a failed assassination anyway.

End clocks. When I finished my second turn I think I was ahead by 5 minutes, but stupidly hit the off button on the clock, so we reset at 35 minutes apiece.

Player Grading
Time Management: 8, playing the list at a competitive speed now, was way ahead and had the game been more stable would have had clocking out as an option.
Scenario Awareness: 7, had a good scenario play that went into action, but couldn't nail it down.
Spacing and Placement: 5, planned placements went well, but lost Gorman needlessly.
Target Priority: 6, wasted a shot on the WillBreaker when Makeda had the fury burning option available. Getting Molik was the right play, as was the Objective. Seducing the Willbreaker opened up a good opportunity.
Effectiveness: 7, used reasonable dice math, had a backup plan for nearly all circumstances.
Cool: 7, sever mental error that cost me the game (The Jugger wasn't in the friendly zone on my turn 2 for no reason), other its hard to lose cool with Southie.
Grade: B (40)
