Game 27 - Win - Hark vs pButcher

Result:Win
16-11-0

35 Point Assassination

Hark (me) - Conquest, Black Ivan, Mechanics (Max), 2x Kayazy Eliminators, Sylyss WashNylons
pButcher - Kodiak, Doomreavers + UA, Demo Corp (max), Kovnik Joe, WGRC (Max), Great Bears

Summary:

Big pit in the middle of the board, WGRC on one flank, Doomreavers on the other. Hark and co went central facing Butch, Kodiak and Demo Corp. Mechanics hid behind.

Fortune and Escort are cast as first action of the game, they are upkept for the entire game.
Opening turns are advances, the Eliminators draw the flanking units towards them, then the Conquest with Broadsides kills most of the Doomreavers, the Greatbears run up close.

The Conquest Criticals the Demo Corp to block Kodiak, one pair of Elimators runs up, killing a Demo Corp and getting in base with Butcher. Remaining Demo Corp kills the Eliminator on Butcher, who pops feat and moves up. The WGRC get boosted by Joe and move up to take shots at Hark, putting him on 6 health. The last Doomreaver charges Hark and misses.

The other Elimators move up and kill the Doomreaver, the Conquest advances and misses with a boosted shot at the Kodiak (Aiming to Crit, missed after re-rolling with Fortune). Black Ivan charges the last Great Bear after a Broadside round, but kills him from the feat shot and redirects the charge into the distance. The Mechanics line up in front of Hark.

WGRC move up, killing the meatshield mechanics. Butcher charges Black Ivan, damages it heavily. Kodiak charges under Full Throttle, hits and throws Black Ivan at Hark, doesn't damage him.

Conquest gets full load of Focus, Black Ivan and Hark shake off. Black Ivan bulldozes Kodiak out of the way, Conquest charges Butcher, puts him on 1 health. Single Eliminator charges Butcher in rear, misses. Remaining pair charge Butcher, opening attack hits and kills.

Performance:7/10. Left Hark open to multiple assassination attempts, but feated appropriately and threatened with eliminators well. Some misfortune with Conquest, should have planned Focus management to boost attacks more. Surprisingly frequent use of Broadsides.

Game 26 - Win - Zerkova vs Rahn

Result:Win
15-11-0

35 Point Umbran League Scenario 1 (Assassination, no Killbox) [Region: Nothing]

Zerkova - Conquest, Marauder, Vanguard, Gorman di Wulfe, Kayazy + Underboss, WGRC
Rahn - Manticore, Phoenix, Stormfall Archers, Dawnguard Sentinels + UA, Ghost Sniper, Magister, Mage Hunter Assassin

Summary: Retribution ran for two turns, Zerkova spammed upkeeps and some meaningless shots were fired. Rifle Corp held off the Sentinels, the Vanguard killed the outflanking Mage Hunter Assassin.
Marauder charges and Slams the phoenix, which is then charged and destroyed by the Conquest, also messing up the Manticore. The Manticore smashes the Conquest up a bit.
Force Blast clears models off the Conquest, who gets a charge on Rahn and misses.
Entire Ret army turns on Conquest, eventually putting it down. The Sniper, Archers and Manticore are all taken down by Kayazy. A few Kayazy are killed, alongside some of the Rifle Corp.
The Kayazy mini-feat, the Underboss almost killing Rahn.
After some fumbling, Rahn is both Icy Gripped and Black Oiled, after which Zerkova spams Magic attacks to finish Rahn off.

Unit Overview:
  • Conquest: Crushed the Ret Jacks, Rahn's spell (Choose deviation directions) damaged the shooting potential, but it was the fists that were decisive.
  • Marauder: Combo slam is gold when it goes off
  • WGRC: Interesting, more testing required.
  • Zerkova: Feat wasn't especially nasty on this army, of situational quality. Should have advanced and popped it earlier to stop attacks on the Conquest. Spells:
    • Banishing Ward: Saved a Kayazy, was only active for opening few turns. Had the focus been available had a lot more potential.
    • Force Blast: Was excellent, combined with the WGRC removing some blocking models it allowed the Conquest to charge Rahn. Had the attack hit, the game would have been over several turns early. Useful, doubly so with the Huge Based Conquest.
    • Icy Grip: Was used on Rahn at the end of the game, was a good debuf.
    • Influence: Not used, no viable/pointful targets presented.
    • Razor Wind: Was the final assassination attack.
    • Twister: Not used, insufficient focus to waste on it.
    • Watcher: Active most of the game, used once to allow the Marauder to kill the last charging Sentinel. Worth upkeeping, but if it needs a fresh cast it is a lower priority.

Performance:8/10. Card confusion caused List issues, otherwise played appropriately.

Game 25 - Loss - eSorscha vs pSorscha

Result:Loss
14-11-0

15 Point Umbran League Scenario 1 (Assassination, no Killbox) [Region: Nothing]

eSorscha - Spriggan, Drakhun, Kayazy (Min) + UA
pSorscha (Opponent) - Beast 09, Doomreavers, Manhunter, Wardog

Summary: Armies ran at each other, Drakhun failed to charge the Manhunter, was return charged and dismounted. Berserkers charged front Kayazy, but failed to hit. Feated, cast Boundless Charge on a Kayazy, who killed most of the Berserkers and Drakhun killed Manhunter. PSorcha popped feat, freezing nearly everyone. Drakhun was killed by pSorsha, Kayazy were killed by various things, Beast 09 and remaining Doom Reavers wrecked Spriggan. eSorasha killed some Doomreavers and charged pSorcha, missing with everything. Beast 09 moved over to eSorscha and splattered her.

Performance: 4/10. Feated pointlessly, put Boundless charge on a Kayazy instead of the Spriggan, all around screwed it up quite a bit.

Game 24 - Loss - pSorscha vs eStryker

Result:Loss
14-10-0

35 Point Umbran League Scenario 3 (Death machine in centre of board) [Region: Everything has Stealth]

pSorscha - Spriggan, Drakhun, 2x Manhunters, Yuri, Iron Fang Pikemen (Max), Kayazy (Max) + UA
eStryker - Ol' Rowdy, Squire, Journeyman Warcaster, Precursor Knights (Max), Rupert Carvolo, Storm Knights, Aiyana + Holt

Summary: Early on the Storm Knights charged in, killing the Manhunters, dismounting the Drakhun and getting half the IFP who failed their command check. Sorscha feated and the Kayazy tried to reach Stryker to little effect, instead killing Aiyana, holt and some of the cavalry. The Spriggan tried to Trample to get to Stryker but failed to get enough space.

The remaining knights, as the only unfrozen infantry, killed Yuri, then were killed by the rallied IFP and Drakhun. Multiple Kayazy were killed by the Death Machine. Stryker feated, pounding the Spriggan to dust, after the Spriggan, the remaining IFP and the Drakhun barely dented Ol'Rowdy.

Stryker moved up in the mass of Precursor KNights, the pair of Kayazy, Ol'Rowdy, Drakhun and the remaining IFP, who took some casualties and failed their morale check. Sorscha charged Stryker, but failed miserably, only to be brutally cut down.

Performance: 7/10.

List - Was reasonable, the Drakhun placing for a countercharge was optimistic.
Tactical - Should have kept the Yuri/Manhunter team on the far side of the forest they were in to avoid the Cavalry charge. Gambled with Spriggan, but should have not done so, though there was little for it do but kill some Precursor knights from were it was. Sorcha vs Stryker was not a good plan, but there were no other practical options.
Luck - Lost just as many Kayazy to the Death machine as to Cygnar (5 apiece by end of the game). Could have placed differently, but ultimately sometimes things just don't work out.

Game 23 - Win - eVlad vs eVayl

Result: Win
14-9-0

25 Point Umbran League Scenario 2 (Assassination, units 12' away from Caster/Lock take a Power 6 and if small get thrown)

eVlad - Spriggan, Drakhun (no dismount), 2x Manhunters, Kayazy (Max) + UA, Sylyss
eVayl - Shredder, Ravagore, Typhon, Spell Martyr,

Summary:Pot shots to begin with, the Mahunters were forced by Scenario rules to run to the centre, where they were killed. Vlad had Transferance up early on, turn two feat affected three Kayazy and the Drakun, all charged the Ravagore/Typhon, damaging both, everything else moved up. Legion did only a few kills in response. Kayazy move over and cut down the Ravagore, the Spriggan charges and messes up the Typhon, who is then killed by the Drakhun. Legion responsed by moving everything to try to get to Vlad, Vayl feated (Re-cast all spells for free) but couldn't finish off Vlad (8 health left). Opponent conceded.

Performance:8/10. Feat timing worked, only error was deployment of Manhunters. Also could have used "Ride by Attack" Order on the Drakhun to have him move closer to Vayl after killing Typhon, but that wasn't necessary in any case.

Game 22 - Win - pIrusk vs Rasheth

Result: Win
13-9-0

35 Point Umbran League Scenario 2 (Assassination, units 12' away from Caster/Lock take a Power 6 and if small get thrown) [Region: In maintenance phase move any enemy model on a Small or Large base anywhere completely within 3'']

pIrusk - Spriggan, Sylyss, WGI Infantry (Max) + UA, Kovnik Josef, Kayazy (Max) + UA, Mortar
Rasheth - Titan Sentry, Gatormen + UA, Beasthandlers, 2x Large Warbeasts, Agonizer

Summary: Armies clash, Rasheth is surrounded by Paingivers to stop the Region movement in the opener. The Spriggan is charged by the Sentry and mauled. Rasheth feats. One of the other large Warbeasts is moved by the region rules, Irusk feats, casts Battle Lust on the Kayazy, who charge and cut down one Large Warbeast. Rasheth and co advance, using the Region to move Irusk 3'' closer, but he falls out of reach. The Kayazy get Battle Lusted and mini-feat over to Rashesh.

Performance: 8/10. Gambled with the Kayazy killing the beast, was a success. Feat timings were nothing special.

Game 21 - Loss - pButcher vs pStryker

Result:Loss
12-9-0

35 Point Umbran League Scenario 2 (Assassination, units 12' away from Caster/Lock take a Power 6 and if small get thrown) [Region: Small base models in Forests/Hills die on a roll of a 1)

pButcher - Spriggan, Wardog, Behemoth, Mortar, Drakhun, Manhunter, Widowmakers, Ternion
pStryker - Stormwall, Gorman, Black 13th, Rupert the Piper, Stormblades + UA

Deployment: Forest in centre, Jacks face off to the left, Infantry to the Right.

Summary:Stormwall pummels Behemoth, Widowmakers get AoE'd/13th to death, Manhunter gets eaten by Forest. Spriggan charged, brutally destroyed, ended up just Butcher being Black Oiled a lot and killed.

Performance: 5/10. Should have included Kayazy, and scrapped Widowmakers for the Scenario. In game needed to all out advance, sacrificing the Spriggan to let the Behemoth get to Stryker or the Stormwall.

Game 20 - Loss - pVlad vs eBaldur

Result:Loss
12-8-0

35 Point Umbran League Scenario 3 (Assassination, Roving Objective in the middle with random spray attack) [Region Special Rules: All Warjacks/beasts charge/run for free and gain Berserk]

pVlad - Drago, Spriggan, Devestator, Kayazy (Max) + UA, Manhunter, Wardog
eBaldur - Woldwatcher (Light), Woldwarden (Heavy), Wold Guardian (Heavy), Shifting Stones + UA Stone Keeper, Warpborn Skinwalkers + UA Warpborn Alpha, Gallows Grove.

Deployment: Warpborns on the far left, Stones, Beasts and Baldur in centre. All Khador Jacks, Dog and pVlad in Centre, Kayazy and Manhunter on far right.

Summary: Both sides advance early on, the circle, once in potential charge range of Khador, put down rough terrain and pop feat (Bonus armour, immunity to being moved). Khador fall back instead, the Kayazy charge up the flank, working their way behind.

After the feat is spent, Vlad pops his feat, the Spriggan charges the Woldwarden but doesn't kill it. The Devestator runs up next to the Spriggan, Drago behind. Baldur pops an AoE spell to kill most of the Kayazy, the Wold Guardian used its knockdown/beatdown to shove the Devestator away, the Spriggan gets mauled, the Warpborn run in. The remaining pair of Kayazy stab eBaldur, leaving him on 5 health.

Spriggan and Drago get mauled/killed. Vlad runs forward to spell eBaldur to death, but falls short of LoS by 1 inch. The Devestator, which had moved next to him, is pushed into him by the Wold Guardian and pummels him a bit. The Woldwarden wanders over and finished Vlad off.

Performance: 7/10.Unused to pVlad, and still uncertain on the Circle. Hindsight points:
  • Spriggan should have been loaded with Focus, S & P was the wrong call
  • Kayazy should have been more spread out to avoid the AoE spell
  • Push attack should have been remembered
  • More power attacks should have been considered after Baldurs feat was drawn out
  • Defence 20 on Vlad is hilarious
